    Re: Hurricane Ike

There are parts of Ohio that probably won't have electricity until Friday.

    How insane is that?

      Re: Hurricane Ike

I live in a southern suburb of Houston. I was supposed to fly out on Friday night to Cali for my bro's wedding and luckily was able to switch my flight to Thursday night (Big props to Southwest for asking no questions and charging no extra fee's for this). We pretty much took the last flight out as all flights were pretty much cancelled the next day.

I'm still out in Cali. My house suffered minor damage. Luckily, I live in a new development, so there weren't a lot of large tree's to crash into things. My fence blew down, my tree's were uprooted and one of my shutters fell off. We were without power through Monday afternoon. Luckily my inlaws cleaned out my fridge and took out my trash.,

My works office was without power until today (so luckily for me, I'll only get charged for 3 days of vacation unstil 6). One of my coworkers will be without power for 2-3 weeks as he lives in a small neighborhood and all of the power line poles pretty much split in half and are laying along the ground.

With a 15 month old daughter, I'm more than happy to have been out of state while this occured, but a large part of me wishes I was there to experience the power of the storm. Everyone I talked to said it was absolutely crazy, amazing and scary.

My thoughts go out to anyone south of me or anyone who had to go through this or suffered any damage. While living near the gulf, makes a hurricane always a possiblity, it's still something very tough to experience. I've heard my area described as a "war zone" on several occasions and am anxiouse to get home and see it all this Sunday. I know a lot of people that had tree's go through their roofs, so I feel more than lucky to only have the minor damage I did.

Anyway, this is my first hurricane as we moved out a little less than three years ago, and that's my Ike story.
