No school for the third day this week for me.

And the weather has been so crazy I've had 6 school days to 8 snow days this month.

I can't believe it's that bad with 1-3 inches of snow. They really aren't prepared for cold weather down there.

In upstate SC, school closed at 11:15 in my school district. Some districts closed completely, some closed at 10 and some as late at noon. Didn't start snowing/ice until around 2. School closed today. Might be a 1-1/2 inches out there but its frozen solid.

About the same here. Roads covered in snow and ice. Doesn't look like state crews did a very good job around the Raleigh area. Can't imagine if we would have gotten more.

The big problem is the hills. People don't realize how hilly Atlanta is. You can't drive up a steep hill when the road is a sheet of ice. No one can.

Add to that the fact that the whole city was let out of work/school at the same time and the traffic is a nightmare every single normal night and you end up with a disaster. Atlanta's traffic is regularly a nightmare.

It snows fairly frequently in Atlanta, too, which makes this issue all the more severe. 2011 had similar issues, when the city saw 4"+ of snow. They upgraded their fleet of salt/sand trucks from 12 to nearly 70 now, but it still wasn't much use when the temperature was 20 degrees and traffic was clogging all the roadways. I think the return time on average for a 2"+ event is every 2.3 years. The airport on the south side of town averages a little over 2" per year (no doubt, it's more like 3" in the northern suburbs).

They have a huge problem with their infrastructure, evidently.

Yeah, it was a big bust out that way. Raleigh got fringed. Looks like the Greenville area up towards Rocky Mount and Norfolk did well as far as snow totals. Wilmington didn't get much snow, but sleet and freezing rain have turned their roads into a solid sheet of ice.

I saw a picture of some people snowboarding on the dunes on the Outer Banks this morning, haha.

I swept the driveway off with a broom last night. It's not often we get to do that in the South as our snow is typically heavy and wet. It was the coldest snow since at least 1996 and maybe 1988. Usually, our snows come with temperatures near or even above freezing, so getting snow in the teens was a nice experience.

25 degrees in Pensacola at 1 in the afternoon.

                    Pretty strange stuff.

I grew up there, my mom still lives there. Definitely don't remember any days like that.

Same with Birmingham, just on a smaller scale population wise.

And I don't care if you grew up in Antarctica, nobody can drive effectively on an inch of solid ice.

CNN anchor tried to throw the ATL Mayor under the bus for kids being stranded at school and literally on buses overnight. Guess she doesn't know that schools are controlled by independent school districts. The mayor can't dictate when schools open or close.
