Books and reading
So i don't really know if there is any actual forum for reading and just wanted to know if any of you have read any good books lately. I just finished The Battle of The Labyrinth book 4 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and thought it was great. I've read the others and this one was really good. So if i posted in the wrong forum please move it. Thank you.MLB: St. Louis Cardinals

Re: Books and reading
As a self proclaimed history junkie, there's no reason for you not having read it. Once you get past the "WHOMG THERE'S A LOT OF PAGES" it's a fantastic book.Last edited by Cebby; 11-24-2008, 12:44 AM.Comment

Re: Books and reading
maybe one of these winter days I could curl up next to the fire and read War and Peace.....
or I could go watch football and play video games, tough choice.
I actually just finished reading Stephen King's The Green Mile. Anyone else read it, its really good so far, best King book ive read. Anyone seen the movie, is it good?Teams I Live and Die with:

Re: Books and reading
The Green Mile Movie was ok IMO.
I just bought used copies from Amazon of "Generation Kill" by Evan Wright and "Band Of Brothers : E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest" by Stephen E. Ambrose.
Heard from other posters here and the Generation Kill HBO Thread that the book was good, so figured I would give it a read. Loved the Series.
Also heard the BOB Book was good, and I'm a huge history guy.
Only paid 98 cents plus shipping for Generation Kill and $1.78 for Band of Brothers plus shipping.
Used Amazon Marketplace FTW!Comment

Re: Books and reading
I'm a Sherlock Holmes collector, and love that era of fiction...probably have around 100 books in my collection (got most of them dirt-cheap on ebay).
I also like fiction books by James Rollins, John Grisham, Will Thomas, Phil Rickman.
My wife bought me the DVD Band of Brothers series...by far one of the best investments. Took me around 2 months to watch all of them but I enjoyed them very much.
I also have the DVD series John Adams that I haven't started yet.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: Books and reading
I just got done reading David Baldacci's "Divine Justice"...the latest in a series, it's a action/drama/politics type book set in DC, but more about the characters and less political boring. Quick read and had me hooked from the start.
Not sure what's next, gotta hit up the library.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Books and reading
I have a bad habit of reading a couple of books at the same time.
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell.
On a clear night in late june 2005, four U.S. Navy SEALs left their base in northern Afghanistan for the mountainous Pakistani border. Their mission: to capture or kill a notorious al Qaeda leader. Less than twenty-four hours later, only one of those Navy SEALs remained alive.
Silent Running by James F. Calvert, Vice Admiral, USN (Ret.)

Re: Books and reading
I think it's a great book. In fact I would read a book about his life after WW2..
One of the Navy's most decorated officers in World War II, commanded a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine, served as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, and headed the First Fleet in the Pacific.Comment

Re: Books and reading
I know this is a little off course with the other books mentioned in this thread but all the Halo Books are great. I would much rather read the book than play the game. The books are:
- Halo:Contact Harvest(About when Humanity first met the Covenant and about Srg Johnson. Also tells you about the Civil war Humanity had before the Covenant)
- Halo:The Fall of Reach(About when you first meet John (aka Master Chief) and are explained why and how the Spartans were made and how the planet Reach fell. You also meet the other Spartans)
- Halo:The Flood(This is basically Halo:Combat Evolved in book form. Tells you about other groups on Halo, you meet the ODST(Hell Jumpers) for the first time. How the Flood was released and how the other Humans on the ring did)
- Halo:First Strike(This is how you learn how Srg Johnson survived and how Master Chief made it back to Earth. You also meet other Spartans(Kelly and others) and meet some Rebel Humans)
- Halo:Ghosts of Onyx(This is when the UNSC are making Spartan III's, a lower cost version of the Spartan II's. You meet Kurt(A Spartan II that served with the Chief) and other characters that you have heard of in the other books. Well while Training the world of Onyx gets attacked and other Spartan II's come to help)
- Halo:Uprising(This one picks up right after the events of Halo 2, it tells the story of about the Chief on the Covenant Ship and about humanity first encounter on earth)
- Halo Graphic Novel(This book has a bunch of side stories like How Johnson escaped the flood, How New Mombassa was defensed at first by Citizens, Spartan Armor testing, and a story featuring Elites)
- Halo: The Cole Protocol(This one is suppost to feature ODST and a look into the Jackal race more. Releases November 25)
Even if you hate Halo I recomend these books. You can read them out of order but #'s 1-4 are in order and would be more clearly understood. The rest can be read in any order and understood.
