    Re: Gaming/PC Setups

    Whats up fellas,

I'm very down on console gaming, and i dont really see the light at the end of the tunnel for me at least (at this point in time). I currently own a Ps3. and like 3 games I hardly play.

Lately I have been playing some older"ish" RTS pc games. (AOE, Starcraft,AOM, etc)

Battlefield 1942 was probably my favorite game to play on a PC, I could play that online for days.

Anyway. Im STRONGLY considering selling my PS3 and games, and getting, or having someone help me/or build a Gaming PC that I can continue to add on parts as new equipment and technology come out.

At first i was goign to go the Alienware route. But those guys are fairly expensive, and in my limited research I noticed I could get all of the same parts far cheaper.

Basically I'm posting because I need your help, as to If your available to build a rig, or you could suggest a spot...I have no problem sending money via pay pal, or purchasing the parts and having them sent to your place, but its something I'm definitely trying to do fairly quickly I suppose.

I would definitely like to be able to play all of the latest PC games at the highest possible resolution with no lag or frame rate issues (basically like the console)

Money is an issue i suppose I figure I'm going to sell my ps3 so i think thats about what $400? + lets say ill be willing to throw in another $600

So right now my budget would be around $1000 - $1200

If anyone would be willing to help I would appreciate it.

Oh yea. I have a Toshiba 47' 1080p LCD TV that has a PC input connection,as well as HDMI and I had my old computer hooked up to it at one point for just using the internet and what not, but If i could use that for Gaming that would obviously be amazing.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also i should note, I don't really need the computer for much else besides Gaming, I have a laptop i do all my music listening/Internet browsing on.

Just as long as I can use the computer to play games I'm fine.

Hey GSW, Your 47" TV will be perfect. PC inputs will allow you to game on it with a PC. I use my 32" samsung sometimes. As long as the seek time is low, you won't see any ghosting.

As far as building you a system. I would not feel comfortable doing that for a couple reasons. First would be the shipping issue. It banging around in transit and if it showed up damaged I would not want to be liable for that. Second would be the parts issue. Things just go out in PC gaming. Other words if I ordered the RAM and it came in not working, then I would have to RMA it and wait another week getting new product getting shipped in, ect ect.

Now I can help you pick the parts out and walk you through a build. It takes about 45 mins to a hour to build a system from start to finish so it is very easy. Almost idiot proof with the manuals if you read them.

Then for $1000-$1200 you can build a F-ing monster!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, this is what you are looking for to see if it will work. IF you are talking about the FOXCONN I used

            Mother Board specs.

            <TABLE class=specification cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=title colSpan=2>Memory</TD></TR><TR><TD class=name>Number of Memory Slots</TD><TD class=desc><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>document.write(neg_specification_newlin e('4×240pin'));</SCRIPT>4×240pin</TD></TR><TR><TD class=name>Memory Standard</TD><TD class=desc><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>document.write(neg_specification_newlin e('DDR2 1066 (O.C)/800.667'));</SCRIPT>DDR2 1066 (O.C)/800.667</TD></TR><TR><TD class=name>Maximum Memory Supported</TD><TD class=desc><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>document.write(neg_specification_newlin e('16GB'));</SCRIPT>16GB</TD></TR><TR><TD class=name>Channel Supported</TD><TD class=desc><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>document.write(neg_specification_newlin e('Dual Channel'));</SCRIPT>Dual Channel

            </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The ram is 240 pin, the board requires a 240 as you can see it has 4 240 pin slots. NOW the memory standard is 1066. Which means the DDR2 800 is not quite as quick as the DDR1066. Which is why I went with the DDR1066 RAM. Get the most out of my board. BUT as long as the pin is the same the board will support from 1066 on down.

So easy answer is YES it will work

Appreciate it. The standard number was what had me confused.

I'm plotting all this out and probably won't have money for this computer till the end of summer lol.

Was looking for the "official" computer section on this site. I knew there was a computer thread on here but I couldn't seem to find it. I think this was the one I was looking for. Just wondering if anyone is waiting for the Phenom II to come out? I'm planning on upgrading my computer. Got a run of hte mill setup from Best Buy. Wish I would have known then what I know now because I would have gotten something more solid. I was over at OCN to check out the latest.

By the way GSW, what's the status on your computer project?

I am in the process of figuring out how to build my setup. Depending on what job I get and what apartment I move to I will be getting a new PC - TV - Monitor setup soon.

Good thread. I will be back!

I like the speaker setup. The rears came out nice. I am boxing in some beams in my home and building the speakers in aswell. Very similar to yours except their angle is not straight down but facing towards the TV or back of your head.

I like the look just not looking forward to running the speaker wire......such a pain in the ______.

also our liviing rooms looks VERY VERY close to the same. Same color, same trim. Weird, but nice

You have one beast *** system Momentous. And Phobia the reason Hard Drives get lower scores depends on the type. IDE will always score lower than a Sata and you have to take into account the RPM in which the speed of data transfers, as that is a very key element in the score.
