And just like that, McDonald's just lost one, if not millions of customers

So I don't go there very often at all, but I went this morning for the first time in what has maybe now been a month, and went for my normal two double cheeseburgers and small fries for $3.23. Coming straight from the gym (yeah, ironic right?), these SDSU short don't have any pockets, so I traveled with three dollars and a quarter in my shoe (they never know anyway haha).

Anyway, when I ordered, it was $3.64. I asked, "The small fries aren't a dollar anymore?" And the lady said, "Actually, it's the double cheeseburgers. They are now $1.19." I had to settle for two of them and no fries.

20 cents in fact makes a big difference, especially when there's a Jack In the Box closer by my residence hall for not much more expensive than that for their supreme cheeseburger deluxe. I wouldn't be surprised if, like me, people go elsewhere instead of McDonald's for this change. Hopefully their income this quarter reflects their price change and they change it back, because it royally pisses me off that they decided to do this.

It was the only thing the restaurant had going for them IMO. They're definitely going to have to come up with a new health spin to reel me back in if the price doesn't go back down.

    Millions?

You mean less than 1% of their customer base?

Yep, I'm sure they'll lose sleep over that one.

I guess I was only thinking of the U.S. Silly me, my bad.

Anyway, millions can range from 1,000,000 to 999,999,999.

How can people honestly think a double cheeseburger will stay at 99 cents indefinitely? And if it did, would you honestly want to eat that anyway? Inflation should always make these things go higher, Hopefully you'll find a job that will at least give you cost of living increases each year. That double cheeseburger has been 99 cents for how many years?

I'm just saying that this is the only thing McDonald's had going for them. I'd rather buy a healthier (not much, though), better tasting burger for that 20 cents more. I'm sure many others will feel the same.

Funny you mention this, one of my friends was complaining about the same thing yesterday.

He did say they replaced it with something but I don't remember what.

EDIT: The "McDouble". Two patties, only one piece of cheese.

The McChronicles dropped by McDonald's today for lunch and detected a change to the Dollar Menu. Missing was the double cheeseburger, replac...

I'm just saying, man... it was all about the dollar menu.

Now, I'm one of those people that couldn't give two ****s about paying just a little extra for a one time thing. That's why I didn't go to Jack In the Box after finding out about the price raise, and still had McDonald's. But, over time, understand that that's a 20% increase. If I bought 100 burgers, that's $20 more. That's why I wouldn't mind buying one Blu-ray for $5 or $10 more, but when it's Black Friday and I'm looking at 40+ movies, I'm doing all I can on that day to take advantage, because if I don't, I'm looking at a hundreds dollar difference.

I thought people would agree with me. Either way, I don't approve of the move, and the extra slice of cheese does make the difference (a few months ago they only gave me one... I was pissed when I got home and noticed, and it tasted inferior).

Remember, it's not about the individual consumer...

you may not be happy with the increase, but like you said, for every 100 burgers they sell they make $20 more.

Most consumers won't be too concerned with a 20 cent increase, and the profit they will make far outweighs the few that will have a problem with it.

Everyone is getting hit by the economy. Not just individuals but businesses too...they have to make up their losses somewhere and IMO raising individual burger prices by $0.20 is a pretty good way to do it.

4 plus years, no increase, and here is the funny part, they now tell us... "be glad you actually still have a job and that we have not gone under".

LOL, if you think McDonald's is going to lose customers over 20 cents, I have a bridge to sell you. Milk went up between 30 and 40 cents, maybe I should just drink water then eh? Prices go up, especially with food. It's life. I remember in high school when Taco Bell tacos were 49 cents a piece. Now they are a buck.

I don't know that most people would even notice or care. Its .20. Hell, you should've just asked someone for the .20 or told the cashier you were short .20. I'm sure someone would've helped you out.
