Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
what kinda of tips do you recommend for a 5' 4.5" 115 lb skinny guy like me?
Some of my strengths are:
1) Shooting
2) fastbreak
3) quickness and stamina, since I run around a lot
Weaknesses:
1) lateral defense
2) lack of strength; I can get abused in the post by other guards
3) lack of confidence; this one has killed me a lot, especially with my shooting. I panic too much when driving.
4) jumping ability
5) I'm not a superb floor general since my vision is maybe mediocre, but not too great.
I wish I was more confident, I think that hurts me the most.Comment

the best is destroying someones will by shutting THEM on the defensive end and hitting clutch shots when your team needs it.#SimnationComment

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
I'm only 5'7 so its all good.
i think you and I have similar builds... i got that Baron Davis/Deron Williams CP3/Chauncey/Andre Miller bulldozer build, from playin football as well.
Its a good thing though, we are tanks and can post up dudes our height who arent as strong as we are. my post moves are impeccable!
my game used to be based on slashing more than anything since i was corrupted by allen iverson (lol)...now ive become more of a true point guard, work the PnR, mid range jumper, hit the three, set up others.
I dont really look to score much at all but it mostly depends who im playing with.
I'd rather get an assist than score personally
I'm not a good 3 pt shooter though. I can hit anything from midrange pretty easily, pull ups, off of picks, running the baseline. But once I step behind the line it's all luck. But I play pick up mostly and we usually play all 1s so I rarely shoot them anyway. I hate people who shoot from behind the arc in all 1s games.
I also love the pick and roll, it's funny because I'm much more successful running it with a smaller guy (someone my height and skinnier) than the big guy I play with a lot (6'6 240). The PnR is almost indefensible in pickup because players don't usually communicate on defense.
But that brings me to one of my biggest pet peeves. When you call for a pick and the guy that sets it doesn't roll to the basket. Then he ends up drawing an extra defender to you and you get trapped or congested. So for all you guys out there, ROLL TO THE BASKET!!! Don't just set it and pop out 2 feet to the left. At least run to your spot for a jumper, don't stand next to me!

Yessir. I prefer to set up too but that depends on my teammates. When I'm stuck playing with bums who won't move at all on the court, I have to get mine. You can't set up guys that don't move and refuse to run with you on the break. It's annoying.

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
I played with a big man last night who knew his role... it was great. He stayed in the paint on offense, posted up, moved around a bit. He wasn't very good, so as soon as he got the pass inside, he looked outside to see if there was anyone cutting to the basket or sitting for the open J that he could pass to. It was great.
I absolutely hate when a big guy chills out by the arc all game... Or when he plays with his head down and can't see anyone other than the man defending him.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
When I play pickup, I'm usually guarded by the other team's best big man and will bring him outside and take advantage of my jumpshot, passing and ballhandling abilities, as well as open up driving lanes for teammates.
Unless someone is 6'6" or taller, or absolutely towers over their defender, it doesn't require that they stay in the paint, imo.Comment

I'm about 6'3" or 6'4" and hate that too. I also hate when shorter people demand to play point guard, whether or not they can dribble or pass, simply because they are shorter.

I'm about 5'10'' or 5'11'' and 175lbs, long arms and can jump pretty high. I can get rim pretty easily if I stretch and warm up. I just play tough d and drive to the hole. My shot isn't that great so I try to play like a mini-shawn marion.Favorite Teams:

I play weekly with a group of kids that are pretty much terrible (myself included). The kid I'm talking about was about 6'3'' and had some bulk, but he certainly wasn't a basketball player.
To compare, there's another taller kid (maybe 6'2'') who is LONG as hell. His wingspan is ridiculous. He's probably the most physically gifted of all the guys I play with, but he just plays outside of his boundaries. He likes to run point, but when he dribbles, he stares at the ground, so he completely misses me when I (or anyone else for that matter) cut. And he's a bad dribbler... just out of control. But he insists on playing outside the arc a lot. When I'm on defense, I give him the shot, because 8 times out of 10 he is going to miss it. Plus, he's not in the middle to rebound the miss. If someone else was missing 8 out of 10, but the big man was inside, I would certainly defend the shooter more heavily because I want to force a bad shot, if any at all.
I'm small, and I like to run the point. Actually, people tend to give me the ball to run the point (not to toot my own horn). I think it's because I play with my head up and find the open man. I'll move the ball around the arc, dribble and dish... for the people I play against (which is likely a MUCH lower level of competition than most), I run the point pretty effectively, I think. I know my limitations.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment
