Guinness a hyped up beer? Maybe heavily advertised, but it certainly isn't a highly rated stout by people who matter.

Basically what I was going to say. It would be comparable to saying Budlight is overhyped because it is marketed heavy and everyone & their mom drinks it.

Guinness has its time and place. Sometimes I crave a good black & tan.

Sam Smiths Oatmeal stout is another good option too.

Everything Samuel Smith makes is great for the price level. His organic chocolate stout is very underrated.

I am sorry but it was most likely not poured/stored properly. Having been to the brewery in Dublin and talking to the staff, Guinness is a very particular beer. I was told as little as 5 degrees difference in storage temperature can change the taste of the beer up to 50%. Also, the percentage of nitrogen in the gas, the glass, the glass temperature all make a difference in the taste. There is also a correct way to drink a Guinness pint.

After drinking Guinness in Dublin I can no longer drink it here in the States, even in "Irish" pubs. Sure it doesn't have a high ABV, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a good taste. One out of every three pints in Ireland served is a Guinness so every pub there takes all the necessary steps to ensure it is as it should be.

I've been killing the Beer Camp the last month. 3 cases in 3 weeks. With case # 4 on ice for WM and Opening day.

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

Recent drinking adventures for me involved:

Oak Highlands Brewing Freaky Deaky. 10% ABV. Sweet/fruit tastes with some of the bitterness I associate with IPAs. Enjoyed it.

Revolver Blood & Honey which I feel like is becoming a go to when I don't want a stout.

Ivanhoe Knights Latte. Not sure if I'd go back to it, but it was nice as I happen to like the bitterness of coffee.

Finally, I had the 2015 version of the Goose Island Bourbon County Barleywine. I'm not sure what I was expecting from a barleywine, but this beer wasn't for me. Took about two or three sips and I was done with it. The sweetness was really off putting for me, and I couldn't place the fruit flavors to it.

I don't think Revolver Brewing is outside Texas yet. Local DFW brewery.
