Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
If nothing else, it was probably one of the few times in my life that I'll drink a beer that could be labeled "40 proof" haha...Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Haha, wait, you were able to put a $10 per bottle craft beer into a mix-a-six at a GROCERY STORE? Is there a Virginia, West Virginia, and a Secret Awesome Virginia that I'm not aware of?Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
Das Bierhaus Oktoberfest
Seasonal ABV Serve in
Autumn 5.9% Dimpled mug, Lager glass, Stein
Brewed by Das Bierhaus
Style: Oktoberfest/Märzen
Menomonie, Wisconsin - This Oktoberfest-style Märzen pours a semi-hazy dark golden amber brew with a very thick off-white head that dissolves to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, some dried fruity character, a touch of candi sugar and a hint of flowery hops. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium body, caramel malt with some dried fruity flavor. Very little bitterness if any. Finish is smooth, creamy and slightly fruity. Thought this has a little extra alcohol compared to their regular Märzen, it is well hidden in flavor and finish. Well done!
Damn, this LOOKS & sounds SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
Just had some Rogue Santa's Private Reserve Ale...yall GOT to try this where ever available. Has anyone tried this yet? Just an Awesome beer folks
Style: Red Ale Food Pairing: Pork, Beef
Tasting Notes:
A double-hopped Red, reddish in color, with a roasty, malty flavor and a hoppy spruce finish.
10 Ingredients:
Malts: Great Western Harrington, Klages, Munich & Hugh Baird Carastan 30-37 & 13-17, Crystal 70-80.
Hops: Chinook & Centennial.
Yeast & Water: Rogue's Pacman Yeast and Free Range Coastal Water.
This pretty much sums it up:
This beer looked like a root beer with a towering three-finger head of khaki colored foam. The retention of the cap was excellent and the lacing in chunks. The aroma was semi-sweet, toasted and caramel malt, chocolate malt and a bitter hops. The flavors were very malty with excellent depth, all the aforementioned malts with some roasted notes and nuttiness. Touches of coffee showed up as I got further in along with some balancing bitterness from the hops. Rich but not too sweet. The mouthfeel was very smooth, the carbonation light and the body medium/full, almost reminds me of an IPA... Highly enjoyable.

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
Ah yes, the SEASONAL nectar of the GODS. I dig winter beers the most tho...with that said, here's a showdown of Pumpkin Ales...these don't hold a candle to the upper class pumpkin ales such as Elysian, Dogfish and Southern Tier. anyway, if you want more bang for the buck...then here's some suggestions & ratings by THE BEER BARON. My sentiments exactly.
Post Road: 3.75/5 - brewed by Brooklyn Brewery in Brooklyn, New York.
It has a slightly more golden-orange color than the Smuttynose brew and a very similar smell, but a little stronger on the pumpkin and nutmeg. It has the thickest head of the four beers, which lingers around longer as well.
The taste is very sweet and very malty, with much less bitterness than expected, much more of a floral hop taste that stands out, but isn’t dominant. There is lots of pumpkin in this brew, but little spice. It is light and tangy on the tongue, with strong carbonation and a pumpkin aftertaste.
This beer is very drinkable, especially at 5% ABV. It gets a 3.75/5, with the negatives in the lack of spice and it being a tad bit too sweet for my taste.
Harvest Moon- brewed by Blue Moon Brewing Company in Toronto, Canada, which is owned by Molson-Coors.
Harvest Moon pours a much darker red-orange color. It has a decently strong pumpkin and nutmeg smell, with hints of cloves. The light head dissipates quickly. It has a very earthy taste and is a little peppery, but has strong, distinctive pumpkin tones.
This beer tastes the most like pumpkin pie of the selection, which I’ll attribute to a stronger malt presence than the others, which isn’t a bad thing.
Also, this beer is thicker in the mouth than I initially expected. In the aftertaste there is much less pumpkin than the others. By that point, it almost feels like the regular Blue Moon brew with hints of pumpkin and nutmeg.
The drinkability lies between the two previous brews, so it is still very drinkable. It has a 5.6% ABV, so it is the second strongest of the four. I’m also going to give this a 3.5/5 just like one of the previous, attributing the negatives to the aftertaste and the sweetness.
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale- brewed by Smuttynose Brewing Company in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
It pours with a thin head and a light copper-amber color and is the lightest colored (but not thinnest looking) of the four beers I’ve chosen.
The smell of both pumpkin and spices is strong, particularly the cinnamon and cloves. The taste is a mesh of these same flavors, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and pumpkin. It has a spicy kick at the tail end of the sip and in the aftertaste, with a hint of a caramel flavor on the back of the tongue.
This beer is tasty. It is slightly dry on the mouth, with medium strong carbonation, has a noticeable earthy, hoppy bitterness, and a light pumpkin sweetness, while the malty sweetness is nearly absent.
This beer is drinkable, but the spice in the aftertaste lowers the drinkability, though I feel it would go well with a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
At 6% alcohol, this is the strongest of these four beers. I give it a solid 3.5/5, with the negatives in the mouthfeel and the drinkability.
Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale- brewed by Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis, Missouri — the same brewers as Budweiser.
It pours a light copper color and a thin head that lingers around for a bit. The smell is almost non-existent, but I can faintly smell pumpkin in the air. The first sip has a very watery mouthfeel, but it is well carbonated.
I feel thoroughly disappointed after three, much more entertaining brews. The taste has a little pumpkin and nutmeg, with a strong clove, cinnamon, and ginger taste on the back of the tongue. The strongest point of this brew is that the pumpkin stands out very much in the aftertaste.
It has 5.5% alcohol content. It receives a 2.5/5, and it’s not recommended imo.
Post Road: 3.75/5
Harvest Moon: 3.5/5
Smuttynose: 3.5/5
Jack’s Pumpkin Spice: 2.5/5Comment

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
I was so hyped to try Pumking given it's rep (plus it's made by Souther Tier), but man was I let down. Holy spice overload! It's like mom got drunk and added 4x the amount of spices required in the pumpkin pie recipe. Blech. I'd say if you like "EXTREME PUMPKIN PIE" this one is for you. Me, I'm stickin with Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. Still got some booze kick at 7%, but oh so smooth.
Rogue's Santa Private Reserve is damn tasty. It started coming out in 6'ers here last year. That was a good day for me.Comment

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread
I picked up a Rogue Juniper Pale Ale last night.
Pretty darn tasty. It was a bit mild for me. A good session beer. A lot of fruit comes through at first, it must be the juniper berries. I don't know if I ever had anything with juniper before. At the end it has a spicy, citrus, and the hops show through.
I liked it. I need to start going through the different Rogue beers. I liked this one.Comment
