LOL, I've brought on Phobia as my consultant as I begin to explore the world of beer.

Made a quick tour of the 3 liquor stores to see what they had to offer. Slim pickings, but I did see that Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout setting upon a shelf.

The most promising option was a Flying Dog variety pack to figure out what kind of beer I'd like.

If you get ANY stouts bro, make SURE you dig strong bitters--'cause most likely they WILL be just that. another tip, the darker brews such as stouts and dark lagers are meant to be served at room temperature.

Judging by what I've shown in this thread so far....will I like Arrogant Bastard? It's on tap at the place I'm going to tonight.

Tonights brew? Just went out & got this on a whim.
SARANAC BLACK & TAN Surprisingly, this is a damn good beer
this beer is very roasty with some coffee, chocolate flavor. it is very smooth and kinda thin. u can drink a few at once or a couple with a meal its not overly filling.

Dark malt roast dominates the aroma, a bit of chocolate, and a bit sweet.
Some caramel malt sweetness early, but then the dark grain bitterness (and hops?) kicks in strongly. After the bitter rush, the finish is fairly clean with just a subtle lingering bitterness. The lager addition really smooths out the stout character. not bad all for 7 bucks a rack.

Whoo, this Arrogant Bastard is like an IPA without the smells. I guess I've acquired a taste for bitter beers. I like it, but I'd stick with an IPA for my hop kick since it has the aroma component. Probably wouldn't like this one much Phobia, based on what I know aobut your tastes. 100 IBUs haha.. love the bottle "Nothing but the finest barley, most aggressive hops, clearest water, our proprietary yeast strain, and abundant arrogance."
I might dig it. I been going hard with the IPA's lately. Just drank a sixer of the Torpedo and I am starting to really dig the real hoppyness.

Can't wait till it makes it here. Should be soon from what I was told.

LOL just start out trying many different styles and then go from there. Find a style that you like and try the different versions.

I tend to stay with dark stouts. I like the chacolate and camels flavors. The Sam Adams Cream stout I one of my favs, with Rasputing RIS being my fav in the 9% plus ABV range. Also Sam Smiths Oatmeal stout is a solid beer.

Lately I been on a hop kick and been stick with IPAs. My taste buds have gotten to the point where I am starting to really enjoy it. After first the bitterness thru me off some but after some time sticking with them. I can see why people become hops lovers. I am well on my way and look very forward when I can get my hands on a Dog Head Fish 90 or 120 IPA.

I think every hops lover goes through that. I hated an IPA the first couple times, and would make fun of my friend whenever he got the local one at the bar. But then I started having them whenever we went to the bars before going to the movies, because he explained to me that IPA's were stronger and so you could drink less and be buzzed more and thus have to pee less during the movies.

After the third movie, I started having some of the bottled IPA's at that bar and have never looked back since. My two favorite types of beer are very hoppy ipa's and dark stouts. Though I don't like when they are combined too much, I can drink them, but I prefer either hoppy or a dark stout, not the combination like Victory storm stout does.

Well my local beer guy called me up on Saturday to inform me that he just received 2 cases of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Only comes out three times a year. I spent $10 on one 12oz. bottle. Bout to pour it. Cheers!

Report back on that one. I saw it at my liquor store too but was there for the 90-Minute to take to a party and some New Belgium Trippel. Heard it's not quite as tasty as the 90-Minute but that super high ABV has me intrigued.
