Tucking a polo in with jeans is like wearing socks and sandles! Its a fashion faux pas

Re: Does Your Job Make You Tuck in Your Polo's (Shirts) ??

I used to work at the main offices for a local school district and part of the dress code was to be neatly dress, including tucking in all kind of shirts. While I did tuck in my dress shirts, I would never tuck in my polo shirts whether I was wearing them with slacks or jeans. Especially on Fridays, I would usually wear a polo shirts with jeans and I always left it out and no body would say anything.

I left that job back in September and since then the school district hired a new superintendent and my friends who work there, told me that there will be no more casual friday and I lot of people are upset about that. If I was still there, I would be upset too.

That's because you are judged on your appearance everyday. You come to work looking like a slob, i.e. leaving your polo untucked, you will be looked down upon.

Good for the Superintendent. He obviously has his priorities in order. He's not worried about hoochie-mama checking him out. He's worried about paying the damn bills.

Three King is hella right though.

Like i can dress "Buisness Casual" here, and before i would basically wear whatever i wanted, jeans, hoodies, shirts untucked, whatever, and i swear to god people treated me like ess.

About 2 months ago i switched it up on them and started wearing slacks, button ups and ties and dress shoes.

The way they treat me now is 100% different, Ive already got a bonus check and some energizer awards($20 gift cards to Safeway) due to "Excellent service".... And ive been doing the same exact things i did before...

anyway though Three King is right to an extent, but i would never tuck a polo shirt in my jeans on Casual Friday.

It depends on your company. I work for a place that truly values employee happiness, as well as client happiness, and we have no dress code. The CEO wears jeans and a t-shirt some days. Obviously you dress up for important client meetings, but I'd feel out of place doing a shirt and tie every day...

At the same point I'm not in sales or anything, so it's probably different in that realm, compared to development.

If I showed up wearing dress slacks, a button down shirt, and a tie people would probably think I was going on an interview or something, they'd all ask me wtf was up.

Also though, you don't want to look like a slob no matter what you wear. Casual is not slob.

Of course you're judged by your appearance. I worked in the PR office, which I was in the public eye every day and I always got compliments for the clothes I wore and how I looked. No one was ever looked down upon unless they really dressed out of order.

And as far as this superintendent, he's already causing a lot of backlash, so he's making changes that aren't making people in the community happy.

And it's funny you said about the hochie mamas checking him out, because the last superintendent we had, he was having any affair with his secretary, so he was trying to impress someone. lol

I wish I had an excuse to 'suit up' everyday...

Whenever I do it's 'game on' with hotties...

Prob is, what I do, where I go and who I hang with would make me look like Barney Stinson on the set of 'Jackass'...

                            Hmmm...then again...???

While i agree that wearing Jeans and a tucked in polo looks kinda stupid you gotta remember you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Like GSW said the way you dress can have a big impact on how people perceive you even if you are doing the exact same job, the exact same way. My work is like what 24th said where "dressing down" is not wearing a tie and swear (could be all in my imagination) i get better sales results when i wear one then when i don't.

Nah, my job is chill. I can wear pretty much whatever I want. I wore a polo and shorts today, and I wore a soccer jersey and jeans yesterday.

As long as I have a collar on my shirt, it's all good. (I break that rule when I wear thermals every once in awhile)
                                Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denial
