Re: Does Your Job Make You Tuck in Your Polo's (Shirts) ??
I gave up on polo shirts really. I look stupid with them tucked in because I'm a larger guy and I hate looking like a sack of potatoes. My stupid job doesn't allow casual dress, so I just go with the button-down shirts all the time now. It looks better and I feel better. If the polo was tucked in I looked like a sack of crap but when it was untucked I looked like an unprofessional slacker. I can't win with polos so eff them right in the aye.--

Re: Does Your Job Make You Tuck in Your Polo's (Shirts) ??
so having my C**** poking out is more presentable?
Dont get me wrong, I will throw a suit on in a heart beat(I love the 30's) but tucking a polo in jeans is just as tacky as having a "kriss kross" 90's style lenght shirt on...No I dont wear skinny jeans neither! I wear clothes that FIT not too tight nor too baggy....
I wont even tuck in a polo with dress pants unless I have a jacket or something with it...Last edited by Jukeman; 03-29-2009, 02:53 PM.Comment

Yep I have to tuck in my shirt. However it makes me look diesel because it's over a bullet proof vest.Comment

While i agree that wearing Jeans and a tucked in polo looks kinda stupid you gotta remember you only get one chance to make a first impression.
Like GSW said the way you dress can have a big impact on how people perceive you even if you are doing the exact same job, the exact same way. My work is like what 24th said where "dressing down" is not wearing a tie and swear (could be all in my imagination) i get better sales results when i wear one then when i don't.
I am trying to figure out how jeans look professional with a shirt tucked in or not.Comment

Jeans can look very professional. Not all jeans are levis with holes ripped in them and fake fading and oil stains...Last edited by MC Fatigue; 03-30-2009, 01:07 PM.Comment

If you are at a work place and so worried about being professional that polo shirts have to be tucked into your jeans, how about just don't allow jeans, because to me, it's not that professional.Comment

I hate this kind of stupid ****... why are workplaces concerning themselves with this kind of stuff? If you don't want people looking unprofessional, tell them to wear dress shirts all the time and make a rule that says "no jeans, period". Having all these minor rules about what people can and can't wear is so nitpicky and a huge waste of time/resources -- is DC's manager telling him that he needs to tuck his polo shirt in on Casual Friday the best way he can be spending his (probably well-paid) time? Just annoys me... get rid of the ambiguity and have a rule that makes sense for your industry... in some professions there is no need at all for these kinds of rules.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Its not a waste of time, it takes about 10 seconds. I worked in a financial office that involved both sitting at a computer a good majority of the day as well as interacting face to face with customers.
If we hit our goals the previous week, we would get a quick email Thursday before we left saying, you may wear jeans tomorrow. It was a reward for anyone who felt jeans were more comfortable. But since we meet with customers you have to tuck your shirt in if you elected to wear jeans.
It may not look more professional to some of you, and that is your opinion, but when dealing with customers when you are trying to sell them a mortgage or whatever, its better to err on the side of caution. No one says Oh, he tucked his shirt in, I am not doing business with them. But you never know, you may sit down with customers who don't like the fact you have a tucked in shirt. As silly as it sounds, there are people out there like that.
Obviously I am speaking more to my industry and don't know what everyone else does, but this is just my opinion.
And personally, I find dress pants more comfortable to sit in than jeans anyway so I never partook in jean Fridays anyway.Comment

See, it's just crazy to me to allow Casual Friday or jeans period if you're so worried about keeping up appearances for customers. Why even bother with rules about tucking shirts in, etc. that come up because of that? If you're in an industry that requires a ton of customer interaction and you feel that you want your employees dressed-up, then don't have casual Friday.. it's just muddying the water with unnecessary rules and adding ambiguity to an employee's life. I just don't know why managers would do that to themselves...Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
