Maybe if I hit 30 and am still single I'll give it a shot. I'd be surprised if a lot of mid-20's girls are on those things and wouldn't want to date anyone older. It is tough to meet women once college is over. Work dominates your life and meeting women at bars/clubs just isn't a good formula for success. Right now I guess I just assume I'll meet someone through a friend or relative, since that's usually how it happens. As someone said, the online stuff is a meat market and while I'm no ugly duckling, I'm not exactly Hercules either and its tough to stand out in a crowd.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
We are in a different period now. 5 years ago, you talked about meeting someone online and a lot of people thought you were nuts. Today, it's completely acceptable.
I'm also not a big club guy. I visit bars, but go mostly with my friends to enjoy each other's company. I also hate speaking over loud music. I rather get to know someone.
I have considered joining one of these sites, but the price has scared me off a bit. Also, I'm not sure which site is best. I see these success stories and everyone talks about getting married. I'm not even thinking about marriage at all. Maybe someday I'll want to get married, but as of right now, I don't ever want to. I just don't see the greatness of it. Maybe it's growing up with family that just didn't have successful marriages.
Anyway, I want to join these sites, date around, meet a girl I may really like, but eHarmony, for example, talks about marriage, marriage, marriage. Match.com seems to say success is through marriage. It doesn't match my idea of success. And let's be clear, yea, sex would be awesome, but it's not the sole reason I want to joina site. I'd like to meet a girl that really matches me.
Since I don't want to get married, I guess I'm assuming that most girls (and my assumption is that more girls want to get married than guys) that join these sites are also looking for that soul mate. That knocks down a great percentage of the girls on these sites. If I knew that there were girls on there that want the same thing I want - to meet someone they can spend time with but not necessarily get married to - then I wouldn't hesitate to join.
hmm thoughts anyone?Comment

Yea i'm not too sure about it either. I hear that eharmony is for really serious relationship seekers which intrigues me because i would want that as i turn 26 this year. but i only have had 1 relationship that ended in nov. i kinda feel like i need some "practice' on there so not too sure right now. also, i want a chinese girl because i want someone in the same ethnicity. not sure if either of tehse sites would work.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Yea, well when i say she paid, she ponied up for the membership. I had that free trial but one of you had to have a membership to talk or communicate more than the stupid "pokes" or "flirts' or whatever they are called(unless you both were in the free trial, which she had already used). She coughed up the dough, we talked on the phone and on AIM for about 1-2 weeks, then i said screw it, lets meet. We met up one night to go bowling, and have been together since.Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I was hanging out with my younger cousin who was 20 at the time, and he was pretty down about girls. We were just talking about relationships, etc, and he decided that he wanted to try it. He joined e-Harmony and went through the 20-30 pages worth of questions that they have you answer. Of course, he said, now it's your turn since I was single again. I did it just for a laugh, and for the most part, it was. I was COMPLETELY honest with every question on there... I mean, BRUTALLY honest, and when it came time to meet my matches, a LOT of them I was thinking "WTF?". There were quite a few that were intriguing, most weren't. But I noticed, that the more I rejected after reading through the profiles, the more they started sending me matches that were more "compatible".
I couldn't see their pictures, just profiles, but the paying girls could see my picture. I got a message one day that said "I'm extremely interested in you, but today is the last day of my trial period. If you look at my profile and are interested, my email is [email protected]. I hope to hear from you." From there... her email was basically her name, looked her up on facebook, added her as a friend, and chatted with her...exchanged numbers... and now, we're getting married on 08/15/09 in St. Lucia on the beach at sunset. She's without a doubt my best friend.
And I owe it all to my little cousins' girl problems.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I've had ok luck using eHarmony and Match. I ended up dating the one person I met on Match for over 6 months...Otherwise I didn't get that many replies.
eHarmony is less of a meat market, but the women are definitely thinking more long term (something to keep in mind). I think you find more honest people looking for a relationship on there, since you have to pay a bit more.
What's even funnier/scary is I'm now talking to a not-fat girl from Craigslist personals (NOT casual encounters!). I normally just read CL for a laugh, but one caught my eye. We'll see where it goes, but so far we have a lot in common.
Thing to look out for: "Myspace angle" photos. I'm not saying that to be mean, but just brutally honest. I'm 6'2, 180, I just don't have that chemistry with some chick that's 5'3 and weighs more than me. Sucks to get to know someone a bit on the phone and then find out they were misrepresenting themselves in their photo.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

From you guys experience do pay sites work better than free ones? I'm having no luck at all from anyone I email on the free sites I go to. Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
actually that's not true, there are a lot of nice looking girls on www.plentyoffish.com but i speculate that pay services would work a bit better because people who pay would be actively using the service. i mean when i email someone on a free site who is to say they didn't post their profile a long time ago and no longer uses the site?Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

Just because they have an attractive picture, doesn't mean that they are attractiveComment
