Anyone try online dating sites?

I'm currently on Okcupid and POF. Use POF much more though cause the girls on there seem a lot better. I haven't had a ton of luck so far. A bunch of conversations with girls but none turning into an actual meet up yet. But since I don't like trying to meet chicks at the bar, I'm sticking with the online approach.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I tried e-harmony right around Valentines Day last year, and had a lot of success as far as communicating with a lot of different girls. I actually lucked out and started dating the first one I went out with, needless to say it didn't work out due to distance and work schedules but it was fun for the summer.
So I got back on it there a couple months ago and it has been absolute horse**** as far as finding me matches. I'm only getting like one or two matches every other day...when I used to get like 6-7 per day on my previous attempt. I've only had like 4 profile views in the last 2 weeks...which just doesn't cut it considering you'll only end up communicating with maybe like 5-10% of the people who view your profile.
I'm paying $14.95/month for E-harmony, but decided to try pof.com on top of that and I've already had multiple girls who live much closer to me express interest. There are, however, quite a few fake profiles (or so it seems) so you have to pay attention. If the person constantly responds with vague answers and never responds to any direct questions...just stop talking with them. It's really easy to pick out who is real and who isn't.Comment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I used E-Harmony and that's how I met my fiancee!
I had to go on a ton of dates that didn't work out though. They weren't bad, just not someone I'd date long term.
IMO it lets you meet people you'd otherwise never meet. I never have a huge friend network, and hate meeting people in bars, so it was tough dating without something like that.
I'm going to do some more research before diving in, but I'm definitely thinking seriously about it.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I'd look towards POF, Match, etc for less serious situations, though I'm sure you can find great people on there too, you just get more people "checking it out". E-Harmony is more expensive than all, so that barrier to entry somewhat weeds out the people not taking it seriously.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Well just got back from my date!
Yes. It was a girl.

My Juniour year of college, after breaking up with my gf I gave Match.com a try. I met a chick on there and ended up dating her for just over a year before she went bonkers. Then I lived the single life for a bit after moving back home and starting my career, dated a couple girls i met out and about but nothing that lasted. Then I had a girl contact me on MySpace and we talked for a while and hung out a good bit, she played games and I was a sucker. Finally I wised up and left that alone. Then after enjoying the single life a bit longer I started trying match again. I met a handful of decent girls and a couple of crazies as well.
The first girl was a couple years older than me, she was practicing law in Charlotte, we went out once and enjoyed ourselves but the day of our second date I was working on some walking trails at the park i work at and a limb fell on my head causing me to get stitches. After getting home from the Dr. I went home and dozed off on the couch and was awoken by a phone call from her finalizing plans. I told her what happened and we decided we'd try again another night...never heard from her again. Ran into her at Target one day, it was completely awkward.
Another girl only wanted to come to my house during the day and watch movies. I was cool with it since I needed "it"...but she wouldnt give it up, some touching was all she'd do unless we were bf/gf....soooo no.
Then I met a pretty cool gal, she was a teacher who was into sports. Seemed to be what I was looking for. We found out we had a mutual friend but she wouldn't elaborate on how she knew the guy (I already had he assumption they had dated). I felt pretty comfortable with her quickly which was strange to me, and I think her too. She started getting flaky and never wanted to do anything and started being awkward around me. Then sent me a AIM msg to break it off. I was bummed but after the way things ended in my 5 year hs to college relationship, I wasnt going to let this one beat me down. I later learned that she started seeing our mutual friend, probably before we even split. Which angered me, but i still let it roll, I even went out with her once more a few months later to a baseball game but at that point felt nothing towards her, so that was it.
Then I met this chick who had moved down from Washington state we went out a few times, led me on...then just wanted to be friends. I started to get frustrated at this point because it seemed like I was wasting my time with each of these girls.
Then I went out with this redhead from WV who was an accountant in Charlotte. Just a spur of the moment thing, she contacted me one night and the next we were at a restaurant listening to two of my friends play wound up at a party at my friends house where we made out in my truck. Then she wanted to go back to my place where we got to know each other better. We got up and went to her place where I stayed the night and we got to know each other more! She was cooky, but I dug it. I was down to date this girl but the following weekend I tried to see if she wanted to come over for a party we were having and she told me she met someone and really wanted it to work out. I responded with something hateful and that was that.
By that time I decided I was done with dating sites and done with dating for quite some time. Then a month or so later while out with friends, we ran into a girl that grew up with a number of my friends but I didnt not know. We struck up a conversation then she started hanging out with the group and each time we saw each other we'd talk for a loooong time. After a couple weeks I asked her out, we've been together for over 3 years now (living together for nearly 2) and fully intend on making her my wife when I get the money saved up. I'm happier now than I ever was single or with any of those other girls.
Moral of the story, dont beat yourself up if it doesnt work out with one girl. Love will find you, even if youre not looking for it. Dating sites were an interesting ride, and if something happened where I became single again (i sure hope that doesnt happen) I may consider it again...but with different expectations.Comment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Eh I'm hit or miss on this.
I used Match and eHarmony for about a year each and in that time, I never had a woman respond to any of my messages, this netted me another free year subscription from both, and once again nothing.
Since then I went to OKCupid, and it's okay, but like anything, women control the power in online dating. They get so many damn messages and ever the average looking girls can pick and choose whatever they want.Comment
