    Re: The OS Guitarists thread

Anybody own a G&L or have any feedback?

I want a G&L L-2500 blueburst...they're normally for around $800 but I found a new one on Reverb.com (never heard of it but from research it seems legit?) for $550. I've wanted a 5-string for so long but if I want something that will last, not a cheapie (but still not a mortgage!).

    Tell me this ain't amazing.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Thinking about picking up guitar (as I have been for 10 years...)

How good of a deal can you get buying used from a pawn shop? What issues should I look out for?

I plan on self teaching via online guides, but I also have Rocksmith 2014 and wouldn't mind being able to utilize the mini-games in that. So I'll be looking for an electric acoustic. I think for my first go around I want to spend $300 or less for a guitar and case.

        Re: The OS Guitarists thread

If you're going electric I would just go for a full electric guitar to start. I always recommend acoustic to start since they can be found, typically, at more economically friendly prices. Since you want to play Rocksmith with it I would research a Squire or Epiphone.

Electric-Acoustics can be kind of testy and they can be a bit picky about amps and feedback.

I saw a video on facebook the other day with the below guitar. The company has other tin-can guitars, too.
        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iKTKkTilRbo?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm getting the itch to buy another guitar. I'm trying to decide between a Fender Tele/Strat or a Gretsch. I really want that early rock n roll/rockabilly sound and that classic country twang, but I would also love to get that really good surf tone. I'm just not sure at the moment. Ulitmately I think it will come down to the Tele and Gretsch.

        Any suggestions or thoughts, guys?

Do you have Rocksmith for the PC? If so, I would be happy to help you with CDLC.

It is like a brand new game to me.

Yep got in on PC last year. I had the original on 360 too and never really played it.

customsforge.com is the best resource for CDLC.

It should give you all of the info you will need to download and play great songs that are not currently in the retail version of Rocksmith.

Let me know if I can explain anything further.

              Good luck!

For that rockabilly / surf thing, the Fender Jazzmaster is an interesting option...

Looks cool, has the desired sound and is somewhat "outside the box" choice...

I just started playing again recently and picked up and Orange Crush 35RT amp to practice on. This thing screams:

                  https://orangeamps.com/products/guit...ies/crush35rt/

I'm getting major fret buzz on all of my old guitars (even after giving them new setups) so I am in the market for a new one. Leaning toward the 2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded T in Satin Ebony:

I would love a regular Studio model, but they cost twice as much and the only real difference seems to be the finish. I really don't need a smooth, lacquered finish for just playing around the house.

I bought this puppy earlier this month for $475 brand new (MSRP is $800). I love it and it's awesome.

55, take pictures of the nuts, bridges, and down along the sides of the necks. Fret buzz is almost always the setup.

I'll see if i can give you some pointers to fix the issues.

Edit: just realized how long it's been since i posted anything in here!

Possibly not EXACTLY what you're looking for, but def worth a look:

Honestly I'm looking for anything. I can play enough songs where I can pick up some progressions to transpose or alter to make my own, but I've always wanted to know the whys at the base of music.

I would love to read something that explains it mathematically because that's how I typically break down songs.

Really though music is an interesting subject to me and I want to learn more about it.

I've owned a Squier Stratocaster for roughly 15 years and just never learned to play and I've been getting the itch to learn. What would you all recommend for learning tools (online or printed materials)? My musical interests are metal and rock, btw.
