OMG that looks like a triple bypass waiting to happen. I would enjoy every mouthful of it though. Kinda why i'm posting in the weightloss thread.

I moved the original thread here because there was a ton of good stuff in here that shouldnt get lost.

As for the other ones "What are you eating?" etc, a "new" one doesnt matter because they're running commentary-style.

Re: The Food and Beverage Thread Pt. II

Cooked up a bowl of crab rice.

-Jasmine rice(I use uncle ben's that cooks in the microwave in 90 seconds. it tastes great)
              -Fried rice seasoning
              -Teriyake marinade
              -crab/alaskan pollack meat(it's about $5 for a little less than a pound)

*Just an fyi, I boiled the meat in a crab boil for extra flavor. I boiled it for about 20 minutes.

Cook the rice by itself. When it's done cooking, mix in the seasoning. Once you've mixed in the seasoning, add a small amount of the teriyaki marinade. Too much though and it will overpower everything so be careful. Then add the crab meat into the rice.

It's delicious. I'm getting about 4 meals out of the crab meat. So the last 3 meals with it, I've only spent about 5 minutes preparing this dish. To wash it down, some orange Powerade Zero.

                      Bump.

So, the past month/two months I've pretty much cut out going out for lunch. Not only does it save me money, but I can tell the difference in my appearance as well. I've been packing like a healthy choice dinner (love the Steamers) along with usually some carrots, an apple, and a clementine. I think the hardest part is just making it a habit to eat the foods.

Anyway, I was just curious what you guys would recommend for quick (easy), inexpensive lunches? Also, what fruits do you guys like? I want to try some new stuff just for some different flavors and so far only have mangos on my list of things to try.

I'm a huge fan of the Boar's Head line of lunch meat...their roast beef, london broil, tavern and/or honey maple ham are simply amazing. A few slices of that and a good quality honey or dijon mustard and I'm in heaven.

[but I'm also a sandwich fanatic]

As for fruit, I love nectarines when they are in season, especially the white flesh variety. My son and I had a game where we picked out new apples from the store every week in order to find our faves (which there are several), regular green bartlett pears are good, and melons of all kind. You can usually pick up a good one on the cheap at Costco or Sam's, cut it up and store it in the fridge, and it'll be fine for a week. If you want to get crazy, buy a couple green plantains, peel and split them, saute in a little butter and top with cinnamon and brown sugar. They taste great warm with ice cream, and will satisfy any sweet tooth (and fruit craving) cold in a lunch.

My typical lunch consists of pepper turkey (Dietz & Watson), pepper jack cheese, lettuce, and Hellman Light mayonaise on a potato bun along with an apple or banana and Dr Pepper to drink and occasionally a candy bar (Mars or Snickers with almond). If I'm at home, I also have Vlassic dill pickle on the side though I don't include one when I pack a lunch.

My true food obsession is popcorn, particularly Orville Redenbachers Movie Theater Butter. I eat a bag of that stuff pretty much every night when I'm watching the 11:00 news and whatever else might be on.

Anybody have any good recipes for tomato soup? I would like to have something simple to snack on throughout the winter and pair it with the traditional grilled cheese or a salad.

Try putting cooked white rice into the tomato soup, makes it a little more like a meal and gives it some texture. It's really good on a cold damp/snowy day.
