I always envisioned myself having the talk when they were 14 or so, but it looks like it has been bumped up one or seven years. So for all you dads with little boys, how would you go about this?

Ugh, Dads with boys, help..
What do you do with a 7 year old who's already "playing with himself"? I just caught my 7 year old boy beatin' his meat. I gotta tell you, it was disgusting. I had a knee jerk reaction and expressed my distaste with it (hypocritical maybe[yes], but it is what it is).

Dayum, I don' think I first choked the chicken until I was 11 or 12. As DC said I don't think it's possible to get much pleasure outta this at age 7."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Man, that is tough and a serious eye opener (no pun intended)
7 is kind of young but if were thinking about having this talk at 14 you are WAAAAY to late. Did you ask him where he learned it from?
Just make sure you don't give him the "weeds speech"

LMAO...
But actually, developmentally, he's not typically at the age where he would carry through a full masturbation action unless he saw something modeled either on film or in his real world (unless a friend verbally instructed him), so you might need some additional information.
This can actually help your connection with him depending on what you want to show him about yourself and what you want him to learn. Remember, there will be other "wtf" moments to come and you'll have to decide what the strategy will be and what you want to come of it.Comment

Re: Ugh, Dads with boys, help..
I will have to have this talk in a couple of years (son is 3) and I plan on having a very similar talk like the one in Weeds. Plus to add on to make sure you keep the door locked. the best thing is to make sure he understands everything because once he starts there is no stopping.Comment

Re: Ugh, Dads with boys, help..
That's about the age I did it for the first time. I would have to say that DC is only half correct though about the orgasm part though.
I wasn't doing the 5 knuckle shuffle for the first time because I wanted an orgasm. I actually was scared when I had an orgasm because I thought I "broke something."
As for the OP's son learning this, I don't think that is the case either. I did it because it felt like it was not only natural, but the thing to do "at the time."
To be quite honest, I remember calling my friend and telling him that I had invented something. When I told him what he called me an idiot and said that he had been doing it for a while. So I guess it's human nature, and not something that you have to see or be taught.I post the frog

Re: Ugh, Dads with boys, help..
I'm pretty sure he never saw me doing it. I'm actually trying to figure out where he got it from, since the only time he watches broadcast tv I'm with him and there is no cable hookup in his room.
I guess hoping is a better word. I always kind of figured I'd be that casual dad when it comes to the sex talk, but I'm actually pretty much at a loss for words.7 is kind of young but if were thinking about having this talk at 14 you are WAAAAY to late. Did you ask him where he learned it from?
I don't know if he's completed, but he was damn sure trying. This, I know. He was sweating a little bit and when I told him to get up, he was at full mast.
I'm gonna think about it for a little while and probably have some kind of talk later on this evening. Haha, I can't even look at him right now. I'm not mad, it just feels awkward as hell.
I'm gonna die if he comes at me like ol' boy from that old anti-drug ad, "You alright! I learned it by watching you!"

Re: Ugh, Dads with boys, help..
Exactly. There's nothing weird about what your son was doing. A lot of boys start choking it at an early age.
You shouldn't punish the kid or make him feel really ashamed about it.Last edited by Gibbz; 03-18-2010, 12:11 PM.Comment

Sorry man, this is just funny.. I can't relate, being a single guy with no kids... but good luck!
Make sure you don't create some shame complex in him about this, but it's understandably a weird thing to deal with, especially at such a young age... hard to know what you should be telling him at that point in his life. Like you said, who knows where he even got the idea from?? I didn't start until I was 10+ and that's due to people at school... kids learn everything younger these days it seems like, so that'd be my guess as to where he got the idea. I don't envy you having to talk about this haha..Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Man I was like 14-15 years old when I started, it had just never occured to me before then even though I called myself trying to "get some" before that. It was to Hilary from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I was like the one guy who said he thought he broke something. I thought my joint was gonna explode, well it did in a way but I was thinking I was gonna walk away with a bodily injury.
I just talked to him and his brother about it though. I think he gets it. I told him it was a natural thing for boys to do, and that I, his uncles and even his granddad did it at some point. At the same time though, I told him it wasn't a toy and unless he's peeing or bathing to try and keep his hands off of it for the time being. He'll have plenty of time for that later. Plenty of it.PS: You guys are great.

Nothing to see here. I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old. Every once in awhile I'll catch 'em "examining" theirs, but nothing resembling masturbation. I wouldn't worry, as long as they keep their hands on their own piece I let it go.Comment
