    Re: P90X

I have a question that I hope someone could help me with. I have had my eye on this program for some time but haven't gotten into yet.

To rewind a little, after a less than impressive physical last January, I started cutting my intake, sugars, basically anything that is bad. Started walking daily 2 to 3 miles and have done this religiously the whole year. I have gone from 210 to 172 in weight, but I still have the reminants of too many years of poor habits hanging on my belt line. I want to do something about this. What P90X version would be best for my situation? Thanks for the help and I enjoy reading about everyone's success.

      Re: P90X

Well both programs are pretty similar with P90x - Lean focusing more on pure cardio to drop fat where as the standard p90x has a fair bit of resistance work so it adds muscle. They are both very intense and will get you fitter and more flexible if you follow the whole program imo.

I think if you are already pretty slim (congrats on the awesome weightloss btw!) then i'd do the standard program as it will make you stronger and add more muscle which looks good and means you can eat more in future without putting on weight.

It is tough to say. I think genetics has a lot to play on Six packs. But if you do this program and you eat the way they say to then yes you will get your stomach back. Jos I am in pretty good shape as it is. But it is genetics for me. I am getting a little bit of a gut now the older I get, but if I wanted to I could go back to my old work outs and get ripped again. I am done working out now. I will do some exercises, but I am getting close to 40 and just don't feel like getting in great shape again. I talk to my friend that was there when Tony was on QVC he said he might give it a try, the key is eating right and finishing the exercises even if you need help in finishing them. What I mean by that if you have to do a lot of push ups, but are getting tired then use your knees to finish the set. At least that is what Tony said. It is really important to finish the routine. Or if you can't do a pull up put a chair under it and use that for a lift. I recommend doing that for the first time, so you do the right form.

Thanks Jonesy and Scott. One thing I didn't mention was my pushup routine this past year. I get in 5 sets of 35 real pushups nightly. I like what it has done for my arms and chest but my core needs work. As far as 6 packs, forget that, genetics won't allow it. I just want that roll gone. It isn't bad, just could be better. I appreciate the words. I think p90x would be a worthwhile program.

You can try this program, but it sound like the push ups are doing it for you. I would do them and some diamonds ones. And maybe some kind of abs exercise and you will probably be good to go. This program is really made for people that want to get in great shape. What I mean by that is the exercises he uses are mostly to trick your muscles and use every muscle possible. If you do his program you will get a pretty good definition arm. Like you will have that "I call horse shoe" on your arm. It is basically your Triceps, but it looks good. If I was you I would try the program, but not go full speed. It is very intense and it kicks your butt, but you can take some of the exercises and use them for your nightly workout.

Like I told Jonesy, I am ready for my next challenge. I want to be in great shape. I "ain't" getting younger, so now is the time. My ultimate goal is to be able to do whatever I want when I am 80, not teathered to an oxygen tank or holed up in my living assistance facility. I want to do something now to get me even further than I have come.

I want my butt-kicked. I want a new challenge. When I start something I finish it. That's why I am really researching this program to make sure it is the one, and it sounds like it is.

              Thanks Scott.

                Re: P90X

Hitting the reset button on P90X today. Did the program in full Jun-Aug but missed a few too many days for my liking. Started again in Oct but last month was a mess with the holidays. So I'm starting over from Day 1 today, determined to beast this program and not miss a day. April 3rd will be my finishing day, can't wait to get after it today.

                  Good luck!

My results were incredible and I might just do the same thing in a month or so.

April 3rd will be my finishing day, can't wait to get after it today.

You said earlier you had back problems - right?

Can you tell me when you get your stuff figured out, which ones you had skipped because they weren't good for someone with a bad back? You said earlier you couldn't remember since it'd been so long.

Yeah I have a pretty bad back, I wear a lumbar brace at all times unless I'm sleeping or exercising. Not fun for someone in their late 20's.

                          Anyway...
                          • I do all push-ups (with PU bars)
                          • I do all pull-up exercises with a resistance band
                          • For the back workout: I use bands for Lawnmowers and go "light-n-safe"
with dumbbells for Heavy Pants. Back flys do not bother me, I go heavy with DBs
                          • The Plyometric workout, I skip the Jump-Knee Tucks, Rock Star Hops and Military March
                          • Do all bi/tri exercises with DBs cept for Crouching Cohen Curls which I skip
                          • Do all shoulder exercises with DBs
                          • Do leg/back in its entirety using bands for the back moves
                          • Do Chest/Shoulders/Tri in its entirety
                          • Do the Yoga workout twice a week

I'd recommend just go going light and safe your first time through and find out what your body is comfortable with.

Just be real careful with your back.

Awesome to have a few guys going at the program at the same time. I'm loving it so far.

I did arms/shoulders this morning and it was pretty easy when compared to chest/back and plyo on the last two days. My diet has been flawless so far and i feel great (despite the soreness). Can't believe i'm saying this but i'm actually looking forward to yoga tomorrow to stretch out the kinks. Is it true that the yoga workout is 1 and a half hours long?

What has really surprised me so far is just how well my wife is doing with the workouts and diet. Usually her idea of "working out" is 30 mins at a pretty slow pace on a treadmill while watching smallville re-runs. She has been fantastic so far and is really getting into it so i hope she sticks it out. We have a wedding on the 1st of May and she is in the bridal party and I am the MC (+ i have a 10 year school reunion this year as well) so we both want to get in great shape.

                                Re: P90X

Completed Yoga this morning and i gotta say it's by far my least favourite of the workouts so far. The 2nd half was quite good but the first half was very repetitive and really dragged on. So many "Warrior" to "plank" to "runners pose" to "downward dog" etc over and over again it was starting to annoy me.

The workout is a little long for me to fit into a morning session before work so i think i'll fast forward a little bit of the first section and last 10 mins (where they just basically lie there and chant etc). Hopefully get it cut down to an hour or so.

Diet is going well and i'm looking forward to my first weigh in this sat. I've seen from a few people online that alot of people don't notice much difference in scale weight in the first month (cutting fat but adding muscle) and it's not usually untill the 60 and 90 day pics where people start noticing a big difference.

Has anyone tried any of the 10 minute trainer workouts? I think once i'm in the shape i want to be those might be good for maintenance.
