Yeah, never thought I'd get into Yoga. I think it was not knowing what the hell a downward dog and cobra was.

Well, I ended up not doing the P90X and just going on a regular diet. I started using livestrong.com (free site!) to begin tracking my calories only to find I was eating 1000 less a day that I needed to lose weight. What was happening was my body wasn't eating enough calories so it always thought I was in starvation mode, hence it held on to as much weight as possible.

So now, after a full month, I'm eating a crap load of food a day, and have lost nearly 10 pounds and not really lost a lot of muscle mass -- if I have I don't notice it because my shirts still fit the same in the chest & shoulders & my strength gains have not gone away. I'm sticking to a ratio of 40/30/30 with my diet (which the site calculates) in that I'm eating 40% protein, 30% carbs & 30% fats, this is the basic ratio most lifters use to cut fat & keep on mass.

My girl has been doing the same and she's lost 4 pounds in the month. She found her problem was that she was over-eating on carbs and didn't take in enough protein. Simple switch since the site lets you see everything at a quick glance.

If you guys have any questions when signing up or anything like that, feel free to PM me. Honestly, this has been the BEST DIET EVER for me. I get to eat, eat often & eat well, I don't feel starved, I never feel weak and it's become so much easier for me to make better choices.

This is going to suck. I picked up the pushup bars and bands yesterday and did maybe 10 pushups just to see how the bars worked/felt and my arms kind of feel like jello already... I can't imagine how they're going to feel when I actually go through the first video with those and the pulls ups.

I'm in freaking trouble.

The pullup bar should arrive today, it's out for delivery (I should have bought it at Target instead, they had it), and then I'll try to start either today or Monday.

I just got the pull up bar and put it together (fast, and it feels strong) and I'm going to go do my first day now, so I'm going to pop in the first DVD and see how I manage.

modify modify modify. do the initial fit test to get a gauge to how much you can do. if you have to do push ups o n your knees the first week... do it on your knees. no shame in that.

I just finished it, and holy ****.

I'm not like sweating or out of breath because it wasn't a cardio thing, but I'm breathing pretty good - and my shoulders/pectorals are burning, and I can feel my back muscles whenever I move. That felt really good, but I didn't do the best - sometimes I could only do 2-4 pushups, and sometimes 1 pullup and my muscles were just done. The most good pushups I did was 8 at the beginning, and for pullups I managed 2 max.

I wrote everything down to keep track.

I'll probably try some knee pushups next time when I can't do any more regulars and see if it helps me fit in a couple more. I have a feeling my shoulders are just going to be mush tomorrow morning.

The ab part was pretty hard too. I was laying down trying to do something, but failing pretty bad... But doing as many as I could - if they were doing 25, I could only do like 10 before I couldn't lift my body up anymore. At one point I was like "I'm feeling this in my legs and arms a bit, not my stomach..." and then sat up to get some water and my abs started burning - silly me doubting the exercises for a moment.

I feel really good now - but really, really freaking sore. I'm kind of looking forward to Plyo tomorrow already.

Man did this ever show me how out of shape I am.

I hear this haha. I did the bonus power 90 UML workout on the intro DVD yesterday as a kind of fit test/warm up just to get started because I wanted to actually start the P90X on monday. I now understand all the felt like I was going to throw up talk, and this wasn't even extreme! But I finished the workout and did most of the exercises with modification.

What does everybody's diet look like during the phase 1 fat shredder? I know I'm going to need a good breakfast because I have class from 8-12:15 and don't want to be feeling hungry during classes.

Also I had a few chips today and just felt terrible after eating them, a positive sign that I'm ready to get that crap out of my life and not feel like that again.

I pretty much ate 4-5 egg whites, with some cubed ham and fat free mozerella cheese every morning. After phase 1, I added a low fat english muffin with it. I also mixed in protein shake every now and then, but the eggs was hearty enough to keep me full for several hours.

Obviously you can just buy eggs and pull out the yolks, but I just bought the carton of whites...probably a little more expensive, but much easier.

Also, take a protein bar with you to class and eat it when you get hungry.

if you look at the contents/nutrition facts, if your using egg beaters egg whites, there is no nutritional advantage to using those over the regular egg beaters. I started on egg whites and realized theres no difference in the "yellow" eggs or white.

Just a heads up if you dont prefer whites over regular eggs

I think the ones I use are just called "Pure whites" or something. They're about a buck cheaper than "egg beaters". I buy the large one, which I think is 32 ounces, which lasts me for four meals and runs about $3.79. I think the "egg beaters" of the same size runs about $4.50 or $4.75.
