I'm not sure what you mean by they don't sleep - but maybe I'll look at those too, I hadn't considered them since I assumed they were probably inferior to actual weights.

And are there no exercises that rely on you holding the weight, as opposed to lifting or doing reps with them. Like say holding 20 lbs weights while doing lunges or something.

I meant don't overlook them. They work fine, actually better on some exercises like lawn mowers. Plus you can modify the resistance by putting loops in the band or standing at different points on the bands.

There are some lifts I'd prefer weights in like some of the flies, but aside from that, bands do a fine job. But if you can afford weights, go for it. I'm on a budget and bands do the job fine for me.

I'll take a look at both - thanks. I'm watching the chest and back video now just to see what it's like and how I'll go about it when I start, and I'm tired just watching this - and you can tell the people doing it are already killing and they've been doing it for quite a while already, so I know this is going to be bad when I get started I will be impressed with myself if I managed 1-2 pushups after the 3rd time.

I also want to ask - I'll watch through them, but I figured I'd ask too - after the Chest and Back one - the Ab Ripper X started on the same DVD, but there's also a separate Ab Ripper X. Is that for DVD's that don't have it or something, or do all the exercises followed by the ab stuff have the Ab Ripper X on them? I was a little confused when that started.

I'm kind of excited about starting this. I ordered the Iron Gym bar from Amazon that should be here Friday, and I'm going to go look at some weights or bands tomorrow after class - and then I might have to look for a plyo/yoga mat and these push up bars.

I'm not going to do any of the diet stuff; I'm just going to try to eat better. My main goal right now isn't to lose a ton of weight or get ripped, but to get my body moving and in shape - so I'll just try to make myself eat better, and carry through with the workouts.

@ Timmay, I'd recommend taking a look at the diet. I don't follow it completely, but you should look at the servings of each food group you should be taking daily rather than trying to just "eat better."

I would agree with this, especially in the first "Fat Shredder" phase. If you load up on protein and keep carbs to a min, you will definitely drop some pounds quickly. I dropped 10 pounds in the first three weeks and then 5 the rest of the way.

I grabbed a set that has multiple bands for different levels because it was way cheaper than trying to buy a bunch of weights. So we'll see how they work. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well...I got the vids from somewhere else. I bought the supplements from the beachbody website and resistance bands from ebay.

I got the pullup bar from Rite Aid lol. It was a total gym workout bar and was only $30. I wouldn't pay more than that for one.

I don't think a mat is that important either. I bought one but frequently find myself passing it up and using the carpet floor instead.

Thanks for the response, I've also seen the videos somewhere else but decided to just order the whole program so I'd have all the workout sheets, nutrition plan and such.

Picked up an iron gym pullup bar today waiting for P90X to get to my house. I think my door might be a little wide but it fits in there somehow and seems to be quite sturdy and holds me fine. From seeing the vids and trying to do some pullups, this is going to be a struggle for sure but I am excited to get going.
