Well the the new pup has made himself right at home. The wife was off work the first week so this past week was the first time he had to be by himself for any length of time. I picked up a play pen from Petco instead of a kennel. The wife would go home and check on him in the morning and I did the same in the afternoon and he did really well all week.

He absolutely loves being outside but I have to watch him pretty close, he likes eating the mushrooms in the yard. LOL!

We just moved into a new house, and we never let our dog on the bed at the old one. We never had to worry about it either because our dog is has no vertical, and he didn't have much traction for the jump on the hardwoods we had.

Well, our new house has carpet in the bedrooms. Our first night there I walk out of the shower to this. (the thing you see on his collar is a Whistle activity tracker)

            Akaya&Dakota_pool_053011.jpg

This picture of my sister's dogs taking over my then 4-year-old nephews pool back in 2011. The one in the back is Akaya who my sister "adopted" after someone brought her into the vet she worked at with a broken leg when she was 9 weeks old and didn't want to pay to have it treated. The person that brought her in said she was a Great Dane x Rottweiler mix, but being as she looks nothing like either breed, we've never been sure what she was. People had said she looked like a Leonberger or a Tibetan mastiff.

Fast forward to this year, and my sister won a free dog breed testing kit from the animal hospital where she still works. She got the results in today, and it turns out Akaya does have some Rottweiler and Great Dane in her (about 12.5% of each) along with 25% Chow Chow, 25% Mastiff, and 25% indeterminate breed (says group classifications).

Beautiful pup and a huge kudos to your sister on taking her in. It is heartbreaking how many come in on a daily basis to the vet hospitals with no means of treatments.

haha yes and no. Overall he's been pretty good, but we do a pretty good job of keeping most things away from him too. He loves to chew on shoes if we ever mistakenly leave one out, but that's the only thing he really fixates on that isn't a toy. We have had him for just over a year now and the worst he has done is chew up 2 wires.

Mine just chewed through my XBox power cord. Thankfully it's the side that detaches from the power brick so I'll get a new one at some point.

Any tips on introducing a baby to your pups? My French bulldog is not the best with kids or people in general, she doesn’t bite or anything but she’s a little aggressive when meets kids and scares them whenever we try. Like she’ll bark at them and kinda charge at them. She won’t run them over but it could definitely get scary for the child and little worried how she’ll react to a new born.

My Boston is amazing and so gentle with kids so I’m not worried about him a bit. He’s the one we are introduce guest to at the my resort where as Muffin will bark at people. We even got a bad review because of it.

She’s such a sweetheart though and hopefully I can find a way where she’s not so anxious with kids and strangers.

A good idea is to bring a blanket or article of clothing the newborn has been in, bring it home to the dog so he/she can get familiar with the scent, then when the young one comes home your dog isn't caught off guard

This 100%. Dogs are almost completely dominated by smell, so any new smell can cause anxiety/too much curiosity. We did this with our newborn last year and it helped a ton. Then encourage their natural curiosity once the baby is home. We were told to make sure we're not giving the dogs a negative association with the baby by being overly protective of her around our dogs. We let them sniff and lick her to a certain extent but trained their behaviors as much as possible around her.

She's walking around now and they do a great job of being aware of where she is in relation to them.

                          Re: OS Pups Thread!

In the latest newsletter from my local animal rescue/shelter (I adopted a dog from there and have been on their mailing list ever since), they mentioned struggling with medical costs in excess of $8700 so far this year. Seeing Sir Barkington, a royally-named little terrier pup mix, on the cover of said newsletter, I had to pitch in with a donation.

It amazes me how poorly some people treat their dogs despite how well dogs treat their people. As if domesticated dogs can actually fend for themselves. I guess it shouldn't be a shock granted how people treat other people, but I digress...

This shelter [Clark County Humane Society in Neillsville, WI] is an amazing place fully staffed with volunteers and routinely intakes dogs with injured eyes, broken legs, run over by cars, and needing multiple life-saving surgeries. Not to mention they take in a ton of abandoned dogs from "down south." I remember they took on a whole horde of mistreated/abandoned dogs (something like 40 dogs) from a single rural property a few years back, nursed most of them back to health, and adopted them out. Those dogs were living in absolute squalor; here's the news story they ran on it back in 2015: https://www.weau.com/home/headlines/...323274801.html

Here's my soon-to-be-5-year-old pup Minnie after being so rudely woken up after a nap:

I adopted her from CCHS for a meager $25. She was "on sale" because she'd been in the shelter 2-3 months already (they are philosophically and firmly a no-kill shelter, so the quicker they can churn through dogs and cats, the better). One bag of her dog food literally costs twice as much as she did. Makes u think.

At this time of the year, let's all be thankful for our pets and support local animal shelters.

I don't own a dog, but I get to dog-watch all of the time. My mom works at a pet hospital and one of their clients travels internationally for business often, so I get to keep her for weeks at a time.

Her name is Olivia, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She's seven, and the sweetest thing ever. No bark, no bite, no growl, no noises from her ever really. But she loves her Brub-brub (that's "brother" in baby talk) and does everything with me when I have her!

My dog is so spoiled it's ridiculous, he has an entire cabinet full of treats and foodcups and dental chews in the kitchen.

He has taken it up a notch with his spoiledness, and it's weird because I adopted him from a roommate who took him in from a bad situation, he was so miserable.

Well his life has improved to the point where he is now a treats snob. This little guy is like 15 years old (maybe) and has decided he will not accept generic dentastix.

I wish I could record this little **** refusing because the last couple nights I've been dying. At the end of every night he gets brushed and then gets his dentastix. The last couple nights I got generic dentastix and when I give them to him he give me a look. It's so funny, like he's saying to me "the hell is this?", and last night this snob actually spit the treat out on the floor in front of me.

An amazing act of defiance, I tried not to laugh because it was so cute, but at the same time I want him to eat that damn dental chew!

Sorry, this would've been so much better if I'd actually filmed him giving me the look and then spitting it out, spoiled *** little guy
