Duke gets hated on for no reason. They could win a national championship and all of you would still believe they were terrible and overrated. Not to mention I don't appreciate the hate on my Lord and Savior.

You like a top team in the sport that is hundreds of miles and several states away, choosing them only because they were good.

I wouldn't feel too bad though, you share that title with about 90% of Dook fans.

That's some Florida St nonsense.

Very few were calling Dook overrated back when they were winning. Sam with Notre Dame football (I assume). However, now both get talked up with mediocre results. If they were good, people would probably dislike them in a manner similar to Florida, USC, UNC, or a Calipari coached team.

You see all those Steeler fans that attend all their games home and away? Some of those are free-agent fans sure. But most are hardcore fans that became Steeler fans back in the '70 glory days. Are you calling 30 year fans of Steeler football bandwagon fans? You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is.

I have been a Duke fan since '86. Live in Austin, TX. I wanted to have a "dog in the hunt" in the NCAA tournament, and although I am a Longhorn fan too...back then they sucked bad and never made the tourney. I saw a Duke/UNC game on TV and the fans and Johnny Dawkins blew my mind. They hadn't won jack yet, but yes...they were good.

Where did you get the rulebook to determining who is a true fan of who? Tell us the guidelines right here and now. ESPN/TNT/WTBS/WGN have been TV staples for over 20 years allowing fans all over the country to follow teams they once would never see.

What are the geographic terms of being a fan? Can you only be a fan of teams within a certain radius? The minimum years followed? Was the team a "winning team" when you decided to follow 'em? Must you have graduated from "your team"?

Wrong. There was no "old" team.

As I stated in my op, I was still a Longhorn fan...but I wanted to start having a rooting interest come March. So I became a Duke fan in '86. I remember because I still have a t-shirt I mail ordered through a catalog.

In a way I agree with you. Back in the mid '80s I would be a bandwagon fan. But where I disagree with you is that after a certain amount of time that moniker gets dropped. A grandfather clause goes into effect. That was 23 years ago. You're still in college it looks like, so I have been a Duke fan longer than you have existed.

If you want to call me a bandwagon fan, do me a favor and prefix it with "23 year" bandwagon fan.

And one more thing. If Duke sucks, and has sucked for some time now(according to most on this thread)...how can anyone who likes 'em be a bandwagon fan? Never heard of bandwagon jumping on sinking ships....

You coulda fooled me what with the way some people carry on about Notre Dame when they get pub from the media. Just imagine a good to great ND team and all you people will be crying about how the media is sucking up to them just like how some folks say the same about Tebow and UF.

I think recently the Pats have become almost as hated as the Yanks, mostly because of Belichick lol.

I love the fact that nobody could ever accuse me of being a bangwagon fan... My fav teams are as follows: Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Lions, and Cubs... Haha. First three hometown teams, last two I love because I understand their pain of never winning.

Easily the Cowboys. It isn't even the team, it is the fans. Making a new post for every new contract for the Cowboys in the NFL forum...

I don't really hate the Yankees, I just think MLB sucks. They need a salary cap and they need it bad.
