Yeah EG, but see you're not contradicting what I said, NCAA 09 was not a fun game for me. It wasn't really so much about one issue that ruined it for me, like someones sock colors were wrong or whatever, but just a conglomeration of things.

NCAA 10 is a lot of fun for me. It's still got a ton of things that are unrealistic as heck but I am really enjoying the online dynasty and using my created team. The fun is back! If NCAA 10 was on the same path as NCAA 08 and 09 were on then that would likely have been reason for me to pass on NCAA 11.

I think people need to enjoy games as games and not as reality simulators of whatever they are emulating.

You loved NCAA 09 initially. In fact, you love every game initially.

Yes I did but after a while having no defense and no way to stop anyone becomes no fun. Same can be said of the Blitz games. Fun at first, not so fun after extended play.

And I wouldn't say I love every game at first, notice I did say it had it's issues. You're taking one statement there when if you read the whole thread I also expressed my disappointment about various issues, such as no long hair, the computer not going deep, the high scoring games could possibly become tiresome, etc, etc.

I'm not absolving them, but I'm sure the fact licenscing cost so much led to their budgeting and time management not being applied to gameplay improvements.
This is exactly why sports games, imo, need to go to a 2-year cycle. I know it'll never happen, and it's been discussed here before, but I think it would help immensely. Sure, the game companies would lose sales of a particular title, but they would also save money from the marketing they have to do every year, maybe save on having the devs not work as many hours because they have more time, and it would allow them time to constructively budget for a game.

I don't think most of us would complain if, say Madden came out in even years and NCAA came out in odd years with EA giving each game a roster update of sorts every year. Hell, I'd think it'd be worth 5 or 10 bux if sports games gave you some dlc which included updated rosters, maybe some new jerseys if teams changed, and other small things. These games compete directly against each other, especially when Madden releases just a month after NCAA, and same for basketball. A lot people say to themselves, do I really need two football games?

But, I guess the licensing contracts they have with these sports require them to produce a game each year, and hence you see less improvement year to year normally because it is rushed.

The devs said they spent 60% of their time on presentation.

I could support a 2 year cycle so long as we get roster updates and maybe a major patch each year. But yeah, the general public would not and neither would EA...why would they, unless they could charge $119 every other year, LOL..

Re: The disturbing trend at OS

The grand old 'Golden Age of Sports Gaming' existed when we had CHOICES.

I'm 39 years old and have been sports gaming from the beginning. It used to be mostly on the PC then when consoles started catching up it was both. All those years we had SEVERAL sports games for each sport. If we didn't like a game, we got the other one. We would end up playing one of the 5 or 6 we had to choose from that year.

Now we obsess over something like Madden because if they screw it up, we're all screwed for another year. So yeah I understand people are pissed. Do they take it to the extreme? Sure they do. The games that catch the most flack seem to be the ones where there isn't another choice. Even MLB 2K series. PS3 owners have the show. But for us 360 owners, that's it. One chance to get it right. If it's not, then yeah we're pissed because we have to wait another year to hope they get it to our liking. In the "golden age" we hade 4 other baseball games so who cared. One of 'em would be good.

Why are people still playing College Hoops 2K8 and NFL 2K5?

I'm as good as anyone at playing games for fun. I have spiral notebooks of past dyansties, stats, recruiting, etc. from my years of sports gaming. Games were better back then because we had more games. Not because we're spoiled brats. If anything we were more spoiled then. Now it's a "take it or leave it" approach.

I actually think it's best that the devs don't interact here. Because you have immature people getting way too personal attacking them, and you also have some devs that really just can't handle it. At the same time it feels that the whole thing is just marketing on their part. There's a reason why strippers aren't supposed to date the customers. I think it should be the same here.

Re: The disturbing trend at OS

I agree that it was better when we had choices but I don't see much use in complaining about something we have no control over. I see this complaint a lot in these forums but what good does bringing it up really do other than give all of us the need to take an antacid??

But make no mistake, I 110% agree, I have a huge amount of fear every year when exclusives drop. Because as you said, if there is something you don't like, or you simply don't like the game, then you're pretty much sitting out for a year and that's awful.

I still remember when I used to tell everyone to buy Joe Montana Football on the Genesis over Madden when I worked at a department store!!

Great post. I almost forgot about how many different games we used to be able to buy. So many sucked lol but we still had choices.

And I agree about the dev stuff. I really don't know how much good comes out of it other than bug and glitch testing. It does feel like marketing to me and their sheer presence usually splits a forum into lovers vs. haters and the arguments get too heated. We do get some nice info and insight at times. But the forums tend to blow up a lot more when a dev is present.

Remember in the Nintendo days how many baseball games you could choose from? Like 5 or 6 different ones each year!! I always liked Jalecos bases loaded because of the behind-the-pitcher view. I love that view now in the show btw.

One of my favourite baseball games on the Nintendo was Baseball Simulator 1.0000. All fake players but it had six stadiums and tons of stat tracking. The stat tracking was the best of its kind at the time and me and my two brothers all had teams and loved that game.

We had choices, but those choices were far from perfect. Double Dribble was not a NBA sim, yet people had fun.

I'm more convinced that in this slider age, along with the sock colors and field decorations, that some people will never be happy. They'll just find something else to bitch about. If one simulated stat isn't right, and gets fixed, they'll just find a new one that's a little off. If they get a uniform right, they'll find something about the stadium to whine about. Some people just can't be happy and just enjoy complaining endlessly.
