I don't think you can do that, but maybe can you. What if it was James' Apples and I was talking about many James?

The thing that makes the English language so hard; there are a lot of rule changes, but some times those changes don't always happen. So while people can complain about grammar all they want. I have pretty good feeling that they are making mistakes too. That is what is funny. Especially with modifiers. My grammar is OK and I write well, but it is not my biggest strengths!

Well, that's what they thought us in English class back in Junior High or so... I guess you'll have to get another opinion from someone whose English is his native language.

It is a common mistake. My kids make it a lot. I they to tell them the rules, but they barley listen. That and too, to and two. The hardest one and even I have a hard time with this. Is knowing when to use effect and affect? There was a trick, but I can't remember it. One can only be used a noun and one can be use as a noun and a verb. If I am thinking right.

It would have to come from an English major. Or maybe a better teacher than me.

I do know for sure that the apostrophe comes after the "s" if the word ends in it.

Certainly not an English major, though.

You could be right, but I have heard and seen it both ways though.

In all honesty this is the rule thing I am talking about. If I say James' bikes. (unless it would be Jamess' bikes) How do you know I am not talking about many James bikes? In some grammar they used it James's Bikes. But that does not look right too. So who knows, I am sure they are having debates right now about it. English Pros are terrible. I remember they still are arguing about is it and or ,and.

That's why in my previous post, I said that I believe you can say either of the two.

                    "James' apple"

                    or

                    "James's apple"

I do know for sure the first one is correct, though.

Says one book and expert, then you have another book and expert say no! It is all good though. I say use what ever you want.

I hate when people say "than" when they say mean to say "then". There's this chick that I like/ed that does this. Biggest turn-off ever.

Yeah that is bad and it is both actually. They are still debating it. James's or James'

                            Yeah, than/then is another one.

Scott, this is one of the reasons the English Language is so fascinating to me. Call me crazy, but I enjoy learning about all of the little rules and changes.

For sure until you have to take an English test Called the C Set. The English is freaking brutal I have to take that to get my teaching credential. Especially the Single Subject English C Set test. I only had to take the multiple subject C Set! That was hard enough.

I guess I just like learning, because when I study for this C Set test. It covered English/History, Math/Science, and P.E./Health/Arts. When I was studying I really starting getting into the Science, then I started getting into the English part and then the History. The Science was the most fun though.
