Put yourself in the cops shoes for a moment. You are the cop, there is a large group of people yelling at you, shouting obscenities at you, throwing objects at you. They are also throwing objects at passing cars, they are also not cooperating with your instructions to stop. You are also the only cop on the scene, and you wouldn't at least draw your weapon? Come on now.

He also didn't have his car pelted with snowballs, nor did he get a snowball thrown at his face. Anyone, cop or not, would be emotional putting up with all of that plus the constant harassment being yelled at him by the crowd.Comment

It's just the sheer amount of stupidity that they are throwing at cars. I wish one of them hit the windshield and the driver lost control and ran over about five of those idiots.Comment

Ah yes, another anti-cop thread at OS! The cops were in the right and saying there needs to be more gun control laws for police is absurd. Yes, lets have the already outnumbered police become sitting ducks for the scumbags. Strick gun laws for cops are what got those Oakland police officers gunned down earlier this fall.

I think both the undercover officer and the uniformed one handled themselves perfectly fine considering the hostile situations/people they were confronted by.Comment

Re: DC Cop Waves Gun at Snowball Fight!
As a retired cop and seeing how "bad" cop videos and situations seem to get the attention here instead of good things cops do, I want to thank a bunch of you guys for defending the officer here and speaking out about some of the awful behavior of some of our citizens. Believe me, he'll have a whole slew of anti-cop zealots after him now, regardless.
Again, tip my cap to a bunch of you young 'uns (hey, I'm old enough to be your grandfather/father and even, perhaps great grandfather).
Merry Christmas guys.Comment

Re: DC Cop Waves Gun at Snowball Fight!
If I were in his shoes, I would act like any other person is expected to do in an incident like that (ie. accident): call it in, and wait for another officer to come down to the scene. I wouldn't involve myself knowing I was emotional from getting hit.Comment

Re: DC Cop Waves Gun at Snowball Fight!
Hes a cop and youre not, isnt it his job to handle situations like that? If he sees people throwing snowballs at passing cars is he supposed to pull over and call the cops while watching them continue until backup arrives or is he obligated to do something in the meantime? Its awfully easy for you to sit in your warm house/apartment and say what you would do in that situation but you dont have a clue how you would react until youre in that situation yourself.Comment

Re: DC Cop Waves Gun at Snowball Fight!
You aren't any other person, you are a cop. First on scene. You can't just cower and wait for backup. you have to do your job. You have to do what it takes to keep yourself and others safe. If that includes drawing your weapon as a scare tactic then so be it.Comment
