Some people
I am not embellishing in this story any at all. Today I was at Chevron getting gas in my car when this guy come up to me and said. "Excuse me sir but I'm trying to get to Mississippi and my car has over heated and I was wondering if I could get some money for some gas?" I responded to him "If your car has over heated you dont need money for gas." He looked at me for a minute with a confused look on his face and walked away. Some people. I wasn't born yesterday, I might die tomorrow but I wasn't born yesterday.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Wow! I kid you not, same exact scenario happened to me about 3-4 years ago.

Re: Some people
I've had a few people put on an act saying they needed bus money. Once I was waiting for the Pitt shuttle at Giant Eagle and this guy comes over and gives me this long sob story, something about he needed bus money to get to work or he'd be fired. Another time I was eating @ Subway and this guy comes over and starts acting like he know's me and we're friends then asks for bus money. I don't give money to strangers though since you never know what their true motives are.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: Some people
I had a guy come up to me once at Taco Bell and say that he needed gas money to drive down somewhere south (I forget where). He said that his parents had kicked him out of his house and he, his girlfriend, and their baby needed gas money to get home. He wanted me to actually get in the car with him after I told him I had no money (I actually had like $20 or something), but I declined and went back to my car quickly and the guy got real pissed. I was only 16 at the time and was a new driver, so I don't know if he was trying to kidnap me or what.
Just a weird situation...

Re: Some people
I've actually had things like this happen to me several times. Once I was at the mall, and this guy approaches me and starts a conversation. Then he goes on to say his wife and kid are outside in his truck and he needs money for gas. I just told him sorry and then was on my way, but in reality I'm like what in the world are you doing at the mall if you don't have money for gas?
Another time a similar situation came up, but it was a guy and his girlfriend at the mall. They wanted a "ride" somewhere, and offered to give me food stamps in return.
The only believable one was a women outside Toys R Us asking for money so she could give her daughter a Christmas. I almost believed her (I still wasn't going to give her money), until when I was leaving I saw her walk over to a nice truck with her husband in daughter waiting inside watching her as she asked for money.
I don't know why they always approach me, I guess I'm a nice looking guy haha.Fan of....

Re: Some people
I gave money to a stranger once when I was like 15. This guy kept asking me and asking me for gas money while I was on my break at work. I kept saying no and then he gave this ugly metal chain and was like here you can even have this all I need is 10 dollars. I just gave it to him so he would leave me alone.
Looking back I know it was stupid but I guess I was 15 and got scared because this guy was creepy. Now I never give money to strangers I say sorry politely but if they keep at it I tell them to F off.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: Some people
Man I was going into a Subway and a guy was outside asking for a 5 bucks because he was hungry. I was feeling good that day and I gave him the 5 dollars. So I'm thinking that he would go inside to order him something to eat. I come back outside and he was still out there asking for money. From that point on, I was done with bums.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Fool me twice can't put the blame on you. Re: Some people
I won't give people money. If I give them anything, it would be food, that way they can't do whatever they want with the money. For people asking for gas, then go to the gas station and buy them gas, but don't give them money. I don't like that I don't give people money, as I would hope if I was in that situation people would help, but there are too many people who just don't want to work and want stuff for free.Comment

Re: Some people
It's even better when they approach you with a cute little doggy in their arms and a pouty, pouty look on their face. I looked over at the car where this lady parked after she pointed it out and noticed she was driving a better rig than I was!Comment

Re: Some people
Me and my buddies were all sitting down at sub sandwich shop in downtown Gainesville when this homeless guy approached me and asked if he could have money for food. I said I would buy him a sub, but all I had was a ten dollar bill. He said he would give me the change after he got his sandwich, and I agreed to the gift.. So he walks over to the line, waits for about thirty seconds, then sprints towards the door with all of my ten dollars. Before getting outside, he turned to me and said "Screw you, I'm goin' to CHECKERS!" and then bolted off down the street.
I think back to the South Park episode where Stan saves up 60 bucks to buy a video game, but begins feeling bad for this homeless guy that lives nearby. So instead of buying the game, he gives the homeless man his money. The guy counts the money and says "That's it? That's all you got?" and Stan ends up regretting giving up the money.
It's hard not to become cynical toward the homeless. They prey on people's goodwill and trust and the vast majority of them are riddled with mental problems and substance abuse issues. Homelessness is way down on my list of charities/causes in our country that need support. It's almost a lost cause, and things like poverty, education, and youth deserve much more attention.Comment
