I recently read that Ernest Hemingway's favorite drink is a mojito. So I no longer feel ashamed having one.

nothing wrong with mojitos, it's not the drinks fault it got all trendy.

Do you drink the whiskey on the rocks or just straight?

I went to this fancy scotch bar about a week ago as part of a bucks night (we had to make a reservation to get a table at 2.30am and the place was packed) and some of the "premium" scotches were pretty disgusting to me. They were something like 17 bucks a glass and seriously some of them tasted like a cigarette. One of my buddies described it as "it's like being punched in the mouth with an ashtray". Some of them were really nice but not worth the ridiculous prices imo.

If I drink a premium whiskey like Crown Cask 16 I'll drink it on the rocks with water.

If u mix it water u retain the taste and remove some of the bite.

yeah I like dumping it on about 4 or 5 large ice cubes (it's nearly always bloody hot here in Australia anyway) and slowly sip it as the ice melts.

I've never gotten how people can just sip straight spirits and enjoy it. My grandfather used to drink everything like that. Wouldn't matter what we were having from tequila to bourbon or scotch he'd always ask for a very small one straight in a glass at family functions etc. Crazy old bastard.

Makers Mark on the Rocks (3 or 4 Cubes) is my go to every day drink of choice. Buffalo Trace is another I tend to enjoy on the rocks, it has a nice woody flavor and does not have the "sweetness" crown has.

Early Morning Piece
1 oz. Jack Daniel's Whiskey
1 cup(s) Grape Juice
1 cup(s) Orange Juice
Mix over 2 ice cubes in a tall glass, stir and enjoy.

That does sound very interesting Ollie. I bet it would be sweet as hell though.

An odd drink I've had quite a few times is bacon bourbon. Take some nice, thick bacon and fry it up in the pan. Take the bacon out and let it drain on some paper towels. Taken some bourbon and submerge the bacon. Let it sit overnight, as longer doesn't really do much. The next day, remove the bacon and pour the bourbon over some ice cubes. The end result is some bourbon, which is naturally smokey and great flavored, and the smoke flavor of the bacon added in. Incredibly good sipping drink. Damn. Wish I had some right now.

I wonder if there is any concern of bacteria?? I know liquor would kill most bacteria, but cooked meat sitting in a glass of alcohol just seems odd. I must admit though, I am VERY interested in trying that. I bet the smokey flavor would be quite nice!!

Any good ideas for mixing whiskey? Back in my younger days I used to be a fan of the shots of straight whiskey, so my friend got me a small bottle of Makers Mark and Jack Daniels for my birthday. Not much of a fan of that anymore. Plus I have a handle of Jim Beam I have had since summer 2011 that I need to finish -_-

Add coke and done, at least with the Jack and Jim, never tried coke with Makers Mark.

We used to do our version Hunch Punch, a mix of ****ty smirnoff and some type of juice and well that messed us up. We experimented then with some vodka, gatorade, and mountain dew. Full of sugar, but surprisingly awesome.

I definitely need to branch off and try some new things that's not sprite/vodka or rum and coke. Whiskey is becoming a favorite of mine, haven't tried it other then on the rock yet tho.

Made a modified cactus cooler last night for me and my girl.
Suffice to say, I was bombedddd.

Used Skyy Blood Orange, Cherry Pucker, Red Bull, Pineapple Orange juice, floater of grenadine.

My God.

By far my favorite drink. Like drinking candy:

Axe Murderer
- Amaretto
- Gin
- Rum
- Southern Comfort
- Tequila, white
- Triple Sec
- Vodka
- Splash 7-up
- 1/2 oz. Grenadine
- Fill with Pineapple Juice

The recipe calls for 1oz each of alcohol, but that depends on how you'd like to drink it. I prefer mine in a large beer mug so that tends to vary
