    Manual or Automatic.

Do you prefer a manual or an automatic transmission ?

I've owned a few vehicles and right now I'm driving a Civic. It's a 5-speed and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I used to look at it this way: If I'm driving a small to mid sized vehicle, I'd rather it be a 5-speed because I feel like I have a little more control over my vehicle's behavior. If I'm driving a bigger vehicle I'd rather it be automatic, just because it's a little easier.

I think technology is finding a way to force me away from looking at it that way. My mother drives a Suzuki XL7 and it's equipped with the newer style transmissions that can be drove as an automatic or you can move the shifter to the right and it becomes 5 speed without the clutch... or if you want to call it a "slap shift.'

I really don't see the point in putting it in a vehicle like that. There's no clutch and the vehicle is pretty quiet so It's hard to shift by ear or feel. You have to stare the tachometer down just to know when to shift.

I'm just throwing a few thoughts about the topic out there while I'm at it.. I'll shut up and see what everyone else thinks

Manual. It does make eating while driving a bit harder but I've gotten used to it.

auto. i'm all for simplification. manual just complicates things. I'm more of a cruiser than a gearhead.

Manual all the way. I don't know if I'll ever own an auto.

Manual. Easier on your brakes and gives you more control over the vehicle. Plus it is really fun

Considering the trade in my family is truckdriving we all learned how to drive semis at young ages so we all still use manual transmissions.

Not only that but it's easier maintenance, easier on the wallet, and better gas mileage, well at least before Hybrids anyway. lol

Both my vehicles are manual trans. My wife drives a mid size SUV thats a 5-speed and I have a little '01 saturn thats 5-speed.

                      Depends on the car.

With the 2009 or later g37 coupe, automatic.

Auto. I could see how manual could be cool for people, but I'm in enough stop and go traffic where it'd just get old fast.

I wonder if eventually they'll get automatics to be better than manual (via computers and whatnot)...

Depends on the time that I'm driving.

If I'm driving in rush hour, right after work/school or whatever else, I prefer an automatic.

If I'm driving late on a Friday Night going to a friends house to have a good time, I prefer a manual.

Manuals are more fun to drive imo, but automatics are more casual and easier to drive.

That said I've been driving an automatic for about 4 years now. My friend has a manual and I do drive it every now and then.

I have manual. I don't live in a big city anymore so it's even better. In stop and go traffic a manual can get annoying. Manual trans. are fun to drive and you can act like you are in a race car (at least that's what I do).

ALSO...my girl can't drive it and many of my friends can't either. Which in the overall scheme of things is a plus. Nobody asking to borrow my car or using it to go to the store or whatnot. It may cause an inconvience if her car was in the shop or something, but overall it is a win.
