Re: TV Vs Videogames: which would you choose?

Well wait, I think we should all re-think our answers. Because honestly, everything that's on TV is on the internet nowadays. I've downloaded a lot of movies on my computer. I've watched a lot of TV shows on my computer. There are also sites where people stream sports games on that I've watched before(now that I live in Florida, that's the only way I get to see most Indiana sports teams, unless they're on National tv), plus ESPN 360. There are a lot of ways to get by without TV.

Maybe I'm going too far with this, but if we're allowed to consider the internet, I would choose video games without question.

I was assuming that watching any type of television programming would count even if it was done on a computer. Was that not what the original post was getting at?

You can do the same things with videogames.

I couldn't imagine watching a championship game by refreshing box scores instead of with friends.

Yeah probably. I was assuming your actual TV at first. And then thought, wait, what about the internet? If it's that you strictly can not watch any sort of TV programs whether it's at a movie theater, on your computer, on your Xbox 360/PS3, then yes I would definitely go with TV.

TV and its not even close. When I'm old and in diapers I'm still gonna want to see my Gamecocks play on tv.

Plus no NFL playoffs or March Madness on tv would suck.

Especially after seeing the advances in HDTV and 3D EVENTUALLY becoming the norm.

Pretty close results so far in the poll.

I was actually thinking i would pick videogames when i made the post because basically when i get some precious free time these days i use that to play videogames not watch tv. After reading some of these posts i'm thinking possibly tv would be the way to go in the long term.

Video games mainly because I spend $150+ on cable and I find myself watching DVR'd episodes of Seinfeld, The Office, etc (sitcoms in syndication) more than any real programming. Aside from football, there seems to be absolutely nothing worthwhile on tv.

Those teams have losing seasons every year or choke in the playoffs.

They aren't going to suck forever.

TV should be a no-brainer and in the end, more cost-effective considering how fast you would go through games if that's all you did.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. On a normal week day I get off at 5 and go to bed around 11. Of those six hours I might spend 1-2 playing games and the rest watching TV or doing other activities (working out, playing with dogs, etc.)

Plus, I don't know about you guys but, I play a lot of sports games and nothing gets me more pumped up for playing a game like watching the sport.

Video games. I hardly watch TV and could easily go without watching it ever again. Most things I watch - I can see on my computer, anyway (the UFC is all I really care about).

I think watching any kind of TV (phone, web, etc...) constitutes "Television"

Well TV to me means Television. Watching things on the computer, at a movie theaters, etc are different to me.

Still, if you were to try to expand TV to encompass all those other forms of media, it would still be video games for me. I could do without watching another UFC if I had to. I'd get over it quick enough.

Right. Plus, watching on your actual TV > watching on your computer.

Especially, with HD, Surround Sound, ect. Hell, in the last 2 years I've ordered every UFC PPV except one (Couture/Coleman). I guess that tells you how I fell about it because I would rather pay 45 bucks and watch it on my big screen than watch it on Sopcast for free. But, that's just me.
