Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

BTW - I went to the store last night and when I was done I had to laugh as my cart looked like the perfect, healthy cart, not one bad thing in there. It was so healthy looking it almost was like a doctor put it together. Man I sure have come a long way from a few years ago when I started this and it was a 70/30 mix of 70% junk and 30% healthy. Now the majority of my shopping is in produce, a section I used to pretty much skip with annoyance.

My girl does the weight watchers thing because she feels that she'll get big if she doesn't. Whatever. Anyway, it seems like a pretty solid system from what I can tell. It's pretty much a low cal/low fat diet correct?

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I think I'd throw my weight lifting/exercising/weight loss story in, too.

I started working out after a 2 year hiatus in January. Started off weighing around 225. I'm 6'1" barefoot. 28 years old.

I started doing chest and shoulders on monday and thursday, back and arms on tuesday and friday, and was running a mile all four days on the track. In 2 months I gained 15 pounds of muscle and started to slim up, but I have bad left knee and don't want to carry that much weight so I decided to skip the weights and just do cardio everyday.

I stopped running and started swimming 5 days a week for an hour a day and dropped back down to 225 in about a month. I haven't been watching what I eat but have went from a 38 waist to a 34 waist in pants.

In the beginning of April I wanted to switch things up and started riding a recumbent bike 5 days a week, between 45-60 minutes in the morning before I went to work. The bike said I burnt between 500 to 700 calories, but my goal wasn't calorie loss, it was maintaining 20mph the entire time I was on. I continued to weigh around 222-225 but also continued seeing a difference in the definition of my arms and legs while seeing my belly fat burn away.

I am the assistant pastor at my church and have deep convictions and a strong dedication to the LORD. Last week I was offered the office of Senior Pastor in the town where I grew up in the church where my mom attends. I decided this week to go on a fast from Monday to Friday (not because of weight goals, but for clarity and discernment as it is a huge decision and responsibility). I weighed myself yesterday out of curiosity and weighed 218. I do not fast on days that I work out or for weight/exercise reasons.

I plan on starting back on the recumbent bike next week and continuing until the 2nd week of May. Then, I plan on going back to my original weight lifting plan (chest and shoulders mon and thur, back and arms tue and fri, but keeping the bike mon through fri for at least 30 min. 3 sets of 15 on all weighted exercises). I don't really have much of a goal weight-wise. I just want to be solid, defined, and know that I don't have an excess amount of body fat.

              Good luck to everybody.

Yeah pretty much it's some sort of calculation which takes into account calories, fat content, and fiber (you get a point reduction depending on the amount of fiber in the food). Obviously, the more fat the more cals and the more points in the end. The wife did it before our wedding and it worked and then we kinda slacked off so we're both on board.

And don't take my slim fast away, that's the closest thing I'll have to a milk shake!

You can essentially make your own shakes with controlled ingredients. Something you can't get from SliM Fast.

                    Milk
                    Ice
                    Fruit (any fruit)

Weight watchers is a great program. I don't follow it specifically but my wife and I have some of the cookbooks and they have some awesome recipes. It's all about substituting healthy ingredients and eating things in moderation. For example tacos is one of my favorite dinners but some of the stuff you eat with it (taco seasoning, sour cream, cheese, etc) is unhealthy.

With weight watchers they have a taco recipe that uses paprika, oregano and cumin instead of the taco seasoning packets and it ends up tasting better, imo. If you use a small amount of low fat cheese and sour cream instead of the regular stuff and load the tacos with veggies it ends up becoming a pretty healthy meal.

When I put on my pants this morning, I realized that they fit differently than they used to. They used to be a bit tight in the thigh region, but now they're baggy there. This is pretty awesome.
