Re: Something I Have Been Experiencing On The Subway

I'd have given up my seat. Right now, I'm battling problems with my right calf muscle and a broken foot. Before breaking my foot, I was able to get by with only a slight limp and was able to stand up for a short period of time before my calf really started to hurt me. I would be able to walk for a distance, but after that time my leg would be KILLING me. On the outside, you wouldn't be able to tell, but if I was to be standing up for a length of time and unable to move the pain would become debilitating.

Right now, I have multiple fractures in my right foot. My leg muscles and the structures in my foot have completely atrophied. Although the bones themselves are well on their way to healing, there is absolutely no muscle strength in that leg. Once the walking boot is off and I start walking in my normal shoes, I'm going to be completely exhausted and very unstable until the muscles grow back and strengthen.

As stated by others here, there are many conditions and very debilitating conditions out there that don't always show themselves at first glance. To make a baseless assumption about that is just as rude as it is for a perfectly healthy person to lie in order to take someone's seat.

Re: Something I Have Been Experiencing On The Subway

I think the whole point of this thread is that women feel they have the right to just take advantage of men, just because they are female. I'm pretty sure if someone had a noticeable ailment, none of us in here would stay in our seat. Even DC stated that he relinquished his seat the first time the woman asked due to her "knee problems." If a regular, able-bodied person (man or woman) is standing up, they will continue to stand. If they have the gall to ask for my seat, they better have a damn good reason, because I'm only getting up out of my seat if I'm a few stops away from my destination or if the person who wants the seat is a bum or fat, and they are standing directly in front of me.

Offer her a seat on your lap next time...

I bet she avoids you from that point on.

          Thank me later.

I'm a believer in "picking my battles" and this one doesn't have enough on the line. Taking advantage through standing up is pretty harmless. If she did this every day for 2 months, I'd agree more with you. The sample size is a bit too small and the details are a bit lacking to convince me of much wrongdoing. It's not like she asked for money.

Co-sign. What do you really "stand" to lose anyway? A little bit of subway cred?

so if you will just give up your seat to anyone who asks why sit down in the first place?

Hold up a sec. This is a subway, correct?

All the seats on a car and this jawn picks you to get a seat from?

I know what you mean, there are a few threads on here that do that.

Dude, she's a woman. Be a gentleman and offer your seat to her. She doesn't need a reason, she's a woman and you're a man.

Truth be told, she shouldn't have to ask you in the first place.

How about when standing in a line? Does this rule apply to that as well?

Why would it? They aren't comparable situations...

Standing in line...You are both standing, how would giving your place in line to someone who struggles to stand significantly help her short of allowing her to get through the line quicker...

On a bus, you are giving up your seat to someone else so they can sit while you stand. Am I missing something with what you are getting at?

The guy didn't say anything about struggling. He said that you should be a gentleman and give up your seat.

And anyway, if you should always be an gentleman and women don't need a reason, it applies to any situation.
