Another Pakistani official said several people had been taken into custody since the failed attack. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of their work.

Wow, Pakistan captured a terrorist. Thats amazing considering they are the ones hiding Bin Laden.

We don't really know that. For all we know, Bin Laden could be dead. Or he could be making friends with Kim Jong-il in North Korea. We don't really know.

EDIT: I hope that he is still alive as weird as it sounds. I think Bin Laden's death would actually bring more harm than good.

People have been fighting over religion since the beginning of humanity. And even though the last European religious war (The Thirty Years War) ended in 1631, it's not as if Europeans haven't found plenty to fight over in the last five centuries. If it's not over religion, then it's over ideology, race, cultural differences, ect.

And even though the last European religious war (The Thirty Years War) ended in 1631, it's not as if Europeans haven't found plenty to fight over in the last five centuries. If it's not over religion, then it's over ideology, race, cultural differences, ect.

Back to the original nut job, the fireworks that were found in the car were bought 10 minutes from me in Pennsylvania. The video cameras helped identify this guy.


MATAMORAS, Pa. — A Pike County store says it has handed over a crucial video of the would-be Times Square bomber buying fireworks at its Matamoras store to federal authorities. The video helped identify Faisal Shahzad, who was tracked down and arrested by authorities, who say they found M-88 firecrackers in the car bomb he left in Times Square Saturday.

William Weimer, vice president of Phantom Fireworks, said the terror suspect bought fireworks worth a little less than $100 at the store on March 8. Weimer said the company had been working with the FBI to identify Shahzad as the buyer of fireworks and credited store manager Jeremy Trimble with discovering Shazhad's name after going through the database.

The store is located just over the New York-Pennsylvania line and is a straight shot down I-84 from Shazhad's Connecticut residence.
Weimer says law enforcement has asked the company not to release the tape to the media at this time.
Store records indicate Shahzad purchased six to eight boxes, each containing 36 M-88 Jumbo Silver Salute fireworks, a few additional fireworks and some safety fuses at the Matamoras store, Weimer said.
"It wasn't an unusual purchase for a fireworks enthusiast," he added. "It was an unremarkable purchase and the store clerk didn't even remember him well."

Weimer also said the M-88s Shahzad purchased did not have enough punch in them to cause a large explosion or chain reaction.
"The M-88 he used wouldn't damage a watermelon," said Bruce Zoldan, president of Phantom Fireworks. "Thank goodness he used that."
Shahzad was charged Tuesday with trying to blow up a crude gasoline and propane device that used timers and M-88s inside an SUV parked amid tourists and Broadway theatergoers.
He was hauled off a Dubai-bound plane he boarded Monday night at Kennedy Airport despite being under surveillance and placed on the federal no-fly list.

Weimer also theorized that the label on the packages of M-88s, which described them as "Super Charged," might have led him to believe the fireworks were more powerful than they were. Federal law limits the amount of explosive material in most consumer fireworks to no more than 50 milligrams, he said.

If Shahzad had been a resident of Pennsylvania and had not produced Connecticut identification, he might not have been able to purchase the fireworks in Pennsylvania. The store cannot sell to Pennsylvania residents unless they have a permit, Weimer said. But Pennsylvania law allows fireworks retailers to sell to out-of-state residents if they are going to take them to their home state within 24 hours.
Weimer said that 80 percent of the business at the Matamoras store is from out of state and each customer must show a state-issued identification.

"We like to think of ourselves (as being) in the entertainment business," Weimer said. "And it makes us sad that somebody would try to use our product like this."

And not even all of Manhattan... just midtown, really.
