The last time I bought a movie or CD was probably over 3 years ago.

The last CD I bought? Hm...

Probably when Metallica released Death Magnetic.

Same here. I buy blu ray's, download movies i don't want to buy on blu and only buy CD's of artists i really want to keep making music (like Lupe for example).

I support bands/artists by going to their show's (shelling out $150 per ticket for Metallica in October) and buying the occasional merchandise but i don't lose sleep over occasionally downloading some music for free.

Prob end up in jail but what can ya do......

Metallica ticket prices are so steep...

I've never been to one of their shows but I'm a big fan.

not really a movie but the last 2 dvd's i bought were the crimson tide's sec championship game win over florida tebow's & bama's bcs victory over longhorns . i used to buy cd's left & right ( own over 500 cd's ) but can't remember last one i bought because with interline music downloading , paying for music is akin to paying for sex

              This.

Although for me going to someone like Metallica or anyone else who has already made millions would be for entertainment for me and not to support them.

But for the Texas country guys I like, I will buy any song I want of theirs because I know they need that $0.10 they get from a $1 song

I just wonder when the house of cards is going to collapse.

Every major album, movie, and Xbox 360 game can be had for the price of your monthly internet fee. We have a generation that grew up with getting most of their "Hollywood" entertainment for free.

If you take a poll, I bet you most people view stealing a physical product from a store as illegal but downloading a movie from a internet server isn't.

Re: When Was The Last Time U Bought A CD Or Movie?

IM2 is probably already out there. Most of the top movies can be found within days of them being released. Usually really crappy quality with a hand held camera but still "free" nonetheless.

I don't know if its a sign i am getting old or what but the picture quality and the overall experience is what makes me go to the cinema and buy the film's on blu ray. The quality of download products is often so crap i'd rather either pony up the cash to go see it at the cinema or wait until the dvd / blu ray i released.

Music on the other hand is the exact same quality (mp3) so there is no advantage to buying it other than to support the artist but much of that goes into the record label's pockets, not the artist.

Actually that really all depends. Some files are uploaded at a cheap bit rate of 128 kpbs, while the ones that I upload are always at least at 320 kbps.

Yeah true but i can't tell much of a difference if it's through an ipod or my crappy little ipod jack + speakers. I can tell a huge difference between a dvd rip and blu ray.

Mind you the pirates are now getting into blu ray rips so as internet connections continue to speed up and harddrives become bigger/cheaper they'll be pretty common as well soon enough.

At the end of the day they'll never stop the pirates.....

You'd say that (so would I), but you actually can hear the difference pretty noticeably, even in your earphones. I actually just bought some music on iTunes to replace its old downloaded counterpart for that exact reason, strange as it sounds. Plus the fact that I play them from my PS3 all the time lol so through my sound system it does sound like crap and doesn't come out of channels properly.

But yeah, at the end of the day I much prefer owning my stuff. Pirating is so 2003.

Agreed. I also like having the blu rays sitting on the shelf with the cover art and/or slip covers.

The problem for the movie industry is that high quality downloads are coming out. A nice quality version of Kick *** came out a couple of days ago. Blu Ray rips are becoming more and more common now.

It's hard to compete with free.

I don't have links right now, but I'm pretty sure sales of DVD's/Blu Ray's have gone down.

You would think with a lot of theaters going digital that you would have digital copies of the movies on the pirate sites.

I don't what the format of the digital copies for theater is, but I would imagine that a manager or someone doesn't care enough about the theater making money that he would sell a copy to someone.

I am lucky, my theater is $5 and the new releases are digital so I have no problem driving 2 minutes to see a movie during the afternoon. Only time I have downloaded a movie was between that it had left theaters and before it was on DVD. Had a girl who really wanted to watch it. The quality was pretty good.

My theater usually shows the new releases at like 2am Thur morning for employees, so I would think that somewhere like I said earlier a manager or someone goes and sets up a camera in am empty theater and lets it play.
