Good Times and What's happening were classic! I love those show. I like the one will JJ became a thug. He think they were selling drugs, but JJ didn't really realize it.

When I was a kid G I Joe was a big toy, about the size of barbie.

There were some intense battles in my playroom between the Joes and the Cobras(or whatever the bad guys were called).
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

There's always this argument wheter what was going back in the day was better because it was really better, or because we like to remember it as better.
I'd go with the first option, but I don't go to my old times, but to the times of my parents. This gives it some balance.

Same here. But my major collection was the Transformers.

Still pissed I never got Soundwave.

Nowadays, the idea of hanging with friends is hooking up via facebook or texting. God forbid you actually go out with friends and roam the streets and get involved in a little mischief.
Does this not happen anymore? I don't have any younger siblings, or know any of the younger kids in my neighborhood so I'm not sure if kids have stopped doing this stuff as much. Honestly, that's what made my childhood so great. I was out playing some sport or just hanging out with my friends 90% of the time growing up. I guess I grew up at the perfect time because it was right before the facebook/online gaming/cell phone phase started in my area(that didn't happen until we got into high school, thankfully). I'd have to believe that there's at least some kids who still do it, because I was still doing that just about 4 years ago.

Well, I'm a high school senior about to graduate next month, and I spent most of my time outdoors during my childhood. Of course, all that was out when I was younger was the Nintendo 64 and, while I played it some, I didn't play it very much. I didn't even dream of owning a cell phone (though I think my dad did have some sort of one for his work). Facebook didn't come out until I was in my mid-teens.

I remember having some fantastic times playing with our toy guns with my friends and pretending to shoot each other. We'd play in my friend's basement, out in the yard, and back around the creek. I never was into G.I. Joes, but I had thousands of tiny army men, tanks, planes, ect. and used to have large battles featuring hundreds/thousands of troops that would take up an entire room. It was always a battle of the tan men versus the green men and the tan always won!

I also had tons of NASCAR cars and had races with them. In addition, I had a lot of Hot Wheels/Matel cars and had roads and buildings and used to build towns in my play room. Legos were lots of fun, too!

I do find it strangely disturbing when I see eight-year olds sending texts nowadays.

Yeah, I'm also a senior in high school(technically I won't graduate til next month, but I've been out for 4 months). I was wondering because I was out hanging out with my friends playing sports all day and all that stuff just 4 years ago basically, and I'd find it hard to believe that younger kids don't do this now(although a decrease in it wouldn't suprise me).

Like you said though, it's weird for 8 year olds to have phones(even worse when the kid makes their parents get them one, I know my little cousins did). I think I got one when I was 14, and I didn't even ask for it. Here's another one for you guys over 30 out there, our parents(well, at least a lot of the parents I know) think it's unsafe to not have a cell phone with us I wonder how you guys ever managed to be safe. I mean I realize, yes it is safer, but I don't need it to be safe. Hell, I went a whole year without one last year and managed just fine, I communicated the old fashioned way(like what you guys in this thread are complaining about :wink.

Re: When I was growing up...

I grew up on a block with about 10-15 kids that were all within 5 years of age with each other. In the summer we used to go out at night on the block and play hide 'n seek over the whole block. Parents never cared because they didn't have to deal with us because we weren't inside.

There was a guy down the block who used to make homemade ice cream a few nights in the summer for all of us...that was very cool of him...his kids were quite a bit older than we were.

We used to have wiffle ball hitting contests where we would stand by the house on one side of the street and see who could be the first person to hit it on the roof of the house across the street.

We used to play things like Running Bases in the front yard. Mother May I and Green Light Yellow Light Red Light were quite common growing up as well. Those were the good ole days.

Re: When I was growing up...

Times were simpler then. I remember going down to the park and playing basketball with the older guys. I'm only 5'8" so I couldn't have been more than 5'1 - 5'2 and 130lbs. back when I was 10-11. Knowing what I know now...I wouldn't have let me go down there.

It was a known hang out for drug dealers and evil doers. But all I cared about was shooting hoops. Was getting picked on by one kid that was twice my size and a few years older...got my tail kicked but got back up and showed I wasn't scared.

I kept going back and never got picked on again. Guess I showed them I had heart.

Great thread, really brings back some memories. Every generation thinks they have it easier than the present one. In 20 years time the 30 year olds will be saying:

And none of this 3D hologram tv for us. We had to watch our crappy little 42' plasma in a measly 1080p and we actually had to download our music to a thing called an ipod rather then just streaming it wirelessly to the 2 million terabit micro server implanted under the skin like you punk kids do today.

And they will say the graphics in video game looked semi real instead of life like. Compare to mine were I said the players looked like space invader monsters.
