When Pouring a Shot of Liquor....

When I started drinking shots, I assumed it was only natural to fill the glass to the brim, on what are usually double shot glasses or shooters. However, many of my friends pour single shot glasses half or three quarters of the way full. Which do you do?

Also, likely because of my disciplines (sociology, africana studies, poli sci) I have noticed demographics about this. Women are more likely to pour weak shots as well as my white friends much more than my non white ones. Also restaurants pour full shots (as they should as much as they charge) and in the media it goes either way.

Does anyone else see this or am I going a little crazy? lol Also, as a side note, does anyone else have a ritual for taking shots? Among my close friends we clink, then hit the shot on the table ALWAYS before taking it. I am asking you guys, because I am weary of bringing this up with friends who pour weak shots for fear of coming across as judgmental or just being a dick.

Im white and I pour it to almost all the way. Not to the brim so I dont spill as for my ritual if Im doing it with a friend we always do it at the same time say cheers or clink glasses or something like that and hit the table with the glass.

Exactly.... I figured that is what everyone, if not what most people did until seeing dozens of people do it differently....

        Honestly...

I'm usually carrying a pint or 5th on me so I just turn it up.. lol

Occasionally I'll break out a shot glass.. almost to the brim.. so i don't spill it

Rarely fill to the brim, otherwise there will be spillage and someone will definitely call party foul on you. Especially if you're drinking that Goose or Patron.

damn, I would love nothing more than to be able to drink a brand of alcohol that is worthy of spillage concern, esp goose and patron lol

The correct answer here would be a flask...

I respect flasks for the novelty, and have a few, however the capacity on the ones I have seen arent enough. Plus they are badass but completely obvious.... Ill take a water bottle full of vodka instead in most situations.

That has never happened in history.

If someone called a "party foul" on you, you're either a frat bro or a high schooler. In either case you are not drinking expensive liquor but instead are drinking one of those 8 dollar jugs of rubbing alcohol.

                  This is not entirely accurate.

Most clubs (especially ones that charge 8-10 dollars per shot) have shot glasses that are optical illusions to make you think you're getting far more drink than you are.

As for the question, a shot is generally 45 milliliters. This can vary pretty widely in terms of how much of the glass is filled.

                    about 4/5 full.

why would you fill to the brim, then clink your glasses together and hit the table? If it's actually at the brim you are undoubtedly spilling some of it on the table and getting some on your hands.....

Or you're partying at a rich friends house. I have friends that when we start getting drunk they'll pour me shots of Patron and the like.

When you have a speed pour on the bottle a 4 count 1-2-3-4 is one oz of alcohol. Which is the norm for a shot

Everyone I've heard say it was between the ages of 16 and 18, averaged about 3 popped collars of ridiculous colors, and a red cup full of Natty Lite.

Then again, the only people who say "that Goose or Patron" are generally either rappers or people who acquired the bottle of a mid tier liquor that's popular in contemporary music and continuously refill it with cheap liquor to impress females.

You probably need to stop hanging out with kids ages 16-18 with ridiculously colored popped collar polos that drink Natty Lite, then.

And what else would you call Goose or Patron? And I've honestly never heard of people carrying around an empty bottle of [insert whatever you call Goose or Patron] and filling it with cheap liquor. Again, you should probably stop hanging around the people you're hanging around, and you just might be exposed to people who actually drink [insert whatever you call Goose or Patron] and aren't frat boys or high schoolers.
