Re: When Pouring a Shot of Liquor....
The guys who got me to try Russian Standard, are no lie, straight out of Moscow, and they swear by it. I figure who knows more about vodka than Russians or Poles, so I gave it a try loved it and switched from Grey Goose to it on the spot.Last edited by bkrich83; 05-31-2010, 11:58 PM.Comment

Trust me it takes a real drinker or at least a real man to drink Vokda straight. I can't even drink one sip with out cranberry or OJ.
Sunny D was what you drank if your parents couldn't afford real OJ.

You are still missing the point, but that is cool. People that drink Vodka straight are truly manly men. It is what it is. It is very very strong. I don't know too many people that drink it straight though. My dad used too.Comment

LOL, this I can absolutely attest to. Very very true.Originally posted by JdurgIf you want to experience vodka, drink it with a group of russians. You will immediately feel inferior. I know it sounds like a stereotype, but it's remarkably true.Comment

Re: When Pouring a Shot of Liquor....
100% agree. I like "girly" drinks and I dont really care what other people think. I have a werid tast for alcohol and depending on my mood is depending what I drink. Who cares what you drink as long as youre having fun. I like Long Island Iced Teas and I also like Mikes Hard Lemonade. Does that make me less of a man? No.Originally posted by JdurgI feel that any "man" can drink any drink they want if it makes them happy. I can't stand Jagrmeister, but if people enjoy drinking it I'm not going to crap on them for it. Same thing with "girly drinks". Who cares if a drink is girly? If it gets you to where you want, then it's a good drink. I have NEVER thought highly of a person due to the drink they choose, nor have I thought less of someone for a drink they choose. If you're a dude and you like drinking White Russians, then by all means do it. When you drink, you drink what you like to get the effect you like. Nobody has the right to think any less of you for doing that.
I will drink straight vodka if I feel like it. The differences I notice between the good vodkas and the bad ones are the aftertaste. The good ones have no taste. It's like drinking water. The bad ones have some strange, undescribeable, taste that leaves a nasty taste in your mouth when you get done. If you want to experience vodka, drink it with a group of russians. You will immediately feel inferior. I know it sounds like a stereotype, but it's remarkably true.
When I drink straight liquors, I like to drink bourbon/scotch/whiskey. Whiskey, and it's variations, are one of those "ignorance is bliss" drinks. I will generally pour myself a drink of Maker's Mark neat when I want a good taste, but I've also tried some of the multiple decade old scotch's and been amazed. I was at a meeting, after work of course, with some of the high ranking individuals in my company and they ordered a bottle of 50 year old, single malt scotch. (The bottle must have cost close to a grand). It was the best thing I've ever tasted. I wish I never had it because all other scotch tastes awful compared to that stuff. Still, later in the night I ordered a simple Long Island Iced Tea and nobody thought less of me. In fact, we were all drinking them by the end of the night. (We all had a taxi-ride home. lol. Though the "higher ups" had a limosuine rided home).
So drink what you want. If someone gives you crap about it, they are just insecure about themselves and feel the need to crap on you in order to make themeselves feel better. A true drunkared doesn't care what others think. We just care that we are satisfied with our own drink choices.

Re: When Pouring a Shot of Liquor....
I can honestly say that Whiskey and Rum have no appeal to me. Every time I try it, it taste like liquefied wood. In fact, the only real liquor I can drink anymore is Jager or Vodka.
And as to the question of the thread, always go 3/4ths. No point in filling to the brim then losing your alcohol on your trip up to your mouth/after doing cheers.
BTW, has anyone here ever tried Conac? I had it once and wanted to spit it out but could not. God that stuff is disgusting, IMO.Too Old To Game Club

Re: When Pouring a Shot of Liquor....
I wouldn't call any hard liquor a girls drink. I have a high tolerance and can drink about anything, the cheapest nastiest thing you can find, everclear straight included. I only say that too set this up, Probably my favorite tasting alcoholic drink is a Strawberry Daiquiri. Never drink them because of price, but aside from "it is toosweet" how can you not love the taste of frozen drinks? Tastes like a damn strawberry smoothy. Also a "girly" chill by the beach drink that tastes great but I don't drink because of price is Malibu and pineapple juice. I very rarely drink them, but if you have never tried drinking "girly" drinks, you are missing out on some great tastes.
I would also agree with whoever said that cheap liquor is for mixing and shots, and mid to high shelf is for sipping on the rocks.
I like the Cognac I have tried. As a celebratory thing I got a small bottle (375ml) of Hennessy one time and I really like it. Probably my second favorite brand past Crown.
Also, I had never heard of tequila being referred to as a woman drink. I can't think of much else manlier than a nice glass of 100% agave silver sipping tequila on the rocks.Comment
