 Re: Discuss.

I see the girl in the pink didn't want any part of it after she got punched.

I hate to make light of the situation, but the cop was doing his job. It wasn't the girl's place to step in and try to interfere. If they had stopped acting like a bunch of jackasses hand slapping and ****, it wouldn't have got to this point.Comment

 Re: Discuss.

In a court of law, everything you said is considered a detainment. It all depends on how the incident went down:

 Situation A)

 Cop: "Stop you're under arrest."
Girl: "Blow it out your ***."
 *Cop grabs girl*

 Acceptable.

 Situation B)

 Cop: "Hey, you, come here."
Girl: "Blow it out your ***."
 *Cop grabs girl*

 Not acceptable.

The article isn't clear whether or not the incident went the path of A or B. I'm just trying to point out that, if the officer never made it clear that she did something wrong and was being detained, she doesn't have to listen to a word he says.

If it turns out he did make it clear that she did something wrong and that she was being detained, I'll be on the side of the cop. Once he makes he clear that she's under arrest/being detained, she has the obligation to comply with his orders. I just don't know whether or not he made it clear or not that she was being detained.

Edit: The article made it sound like this could have happened:

Girl was walking with her friends across a street. Cop came up to them and started talking. She didn't care to hear what he had to say, so she walked away. Cop yelled at her "Hey, I'm not done with you!" and she kept walking and waved her arm in a "piss off" manner. Cop ran after her and grabbed her by the arm.

It isn't clear whether or not the cop ever said anything about jaywalking, violation of a law, detainment, being under arrest, issuance of a citation. If he had mentioned any of those terms, and made it clear that the girls were being detained and had violated a law, like I said, I'd be in his corner. However, for all I know, he simply went up to them and said "What's your name, give me your ID." If that's all he did, she had every right to tell him to piss off.

TRUST ME, district attorney's are quick to throw out anything in which you detain somebody when there is no reason to detain them...and I mean quick.

If I see a girl doing nothing wrong and say "Hey come here" and she does and I ask for consent to search her and find a bloody knife from a murder she just committed...it will get thrown out in court because I detained/seized her without any reasonable suspicion to do so.

If I say "Hey do you mind if I talk to you a moment?" then she comes over and a consent search is done and I find the knife, I'm good.

Attorneys make a living off the difference in the two.

Bottom line...the girl has zero respect for authority figures.

Oh and it's hilarious when she yells at him to read her her rights. You only do that when in custody & being interrogated. COPS, the Tv show, has misinformed the general public.Comment

 Re: Discuss.

They are lucky they are girls. If they were guys the level of threat would've been raised and deadly force may have been justified. The cop has both hands tied up and his gun is exposed. Who says that girl couldn't have grabbed the gun and then shot the cop in the head. She assaulted a cop who was in the middle of trying to handcuff another person.I see the girl in the pink didn't want any part of it after she got punched.

BTW where is his backup? I would never be in that type of situation.Comment

Sad part is...no matter what force he would've used, he'd be wrong and getting crucified in the media and by a lot of the public.

LEO's are so handcuffed (pardon the pun) these days when it comes to doing their job...it's not even funny. I even catch myself watching what I'm doing at all times and that's in a small town...never know who's watching, where a camera is at, and what BS complaints will be laid at your feet next.

He did the right thing. If she was doing that to someone on the street, she would have got hit too. So why can't the cop hit her. I would have pepper spray though. That is a lot worst too. I got some pepper spray in my mouth once, because my students were fighting right next to me and the guards came in spraying. That is some bad stuff right there.Comment

 Re: Discuss.

I think he should have grabbed her or something, not punch her in the face.

But I don't defend her either, the girl was down right stupid. This shows what happens when you try to make a scene to impress your friends on how brave and hard you are. You get melee by a cop.

But oh! Well like someone said, being stupid gets you outrageous actions.Comment
