I'm aiming for my first-ever half-marathon in late-May. Now that I'm actually home for a bit before I have to travel for work again, I can actually get back into a consistent routine with running. I actually managed several runs while on the road, which normally doesn't happen, so at least I was able to keep my fitness levels up.

Awesome stuff DJ. Go for it! I convinced my buddy to do a 1/2 this year and he swore he would die and never make it but he crushed it. Mind over matter!Comment

Re: OS Running Thread
My average per mile has come down 10 seconds in the past month, which is encouraging since I'd been limited to treadmill work due to the weather.
There's a few training plans out there but I feel like I'm already on the right path in terms of my own training so I'll just continue to do what I do and see how everything shakes out in a couple of months.Currently Playing:

Purchased these at FinishLine for about $50 bucks. I'm surprised how comfortable they are while running.Attached FilesFav teams:

Re: OS Running Thread
Those look interesting. I bought 2 pairs of shoes this weekend; Brooks Ghost and another pair of Saucony Ride 7's. I figured alternating shoes will help increase the lifespan of both, as I burned through my last Ride 7's quickly.
Got in a 7-mile run with the now old shoes on Sat. Conditions were perfect and my pace was good, right at 9-min./mile. I could tell it was the end of the line in terms of serious running with the shoes; the shock absorption wasn't there and even had my right foot tingling for a bit.Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
Signed up for my first half-marathon last week and the race will be held on May 23. Doing a 5K with the wife this weekend.
Training for the half has been going well. Had to take last week off due to work travel, but was able to do a 10-mile run before that trip and have done a 5- and 6-mile run so far this week.
Ideally l'd like to finish the half-marathon in under 2 hours, but really, I'll be happy with just finishing the race as I've never done this distance before. Based on my training, I'm either going to be a few minutes under or over the 2-hour mark.Currently Playing:

Finished 30th overall and 3rd in my age group at the 5K today. 8:55/mile pace. Earned my first medal and got a "congrats!" from Stone Cold Steve Austin on Twitter (I had one of his Broken Skull shirts on in my photo). A very good day!Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
Decided to add these to my running shoe rotation last week. Since I have small legs I prefer lightweight shoes. The fact that these have no insoles isn't a bad thing either.Attached FilesFav teams:

Re: OS Running Thread
Half-marathon is 6 days away. Got in a good week of training this week and will scale back the running leading up to the race, likely just a couple of shorter runs Monday and Wednesday and then a shakeout run (15-20 min.) on Friday.Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
Hey all! New to the thread...I am looking to get back into some short distance running (5k type lengths). I use to run regularly in high school and undergraduate, but now being in veterinary school, I haven't had the time like I would like to.
Anyone have any programs that they really liked to get started again? I am not sure I need to go all the way back to a "couch to 5k" type routine but it could be rough getting back into it. I know there are a lot out there so just wanted to see if anyone had any favorites.

Re: OS Running Thread
First half-marathon is in the books! I did great for 10 miles, then hit a wall just before Mile 11, so finishing was tough but I got through it. Conditions were great (sun, temps in the 50's) but the course was challenging with a lot of hill climbs in the beginning and then rolling hills through the middle and end sections.
I finished in 2:10.42. For my first half and the course, I am pleased with my time. I was on track for a 2-hour finish, but knew that wasn't going to happen once the crash came. I stayed well-hydrated and used a couple of gels, but could've used a few bites of a protein bar, I think.
It was certainly an experience to run that far. I don't know Macho and others run 26.2! I'm toast after 13.1. Looking forward to relaxing the rest of the day; I'll post up a photo with my medal later on.Currently Playing:

Oh boy, definitely feeling the effects of the half-marathon today. Going to need to stretch and foam roll a bit. As promised, here's the medal photo.Attached FilesCurrently Playing:
