    Train!

Seriously though are you following a program? How many days a week you running and at what mileage? Do you have any other races you've done like 5k/10k?

Man, what happened to all the runners here? I've been logging 12-20 miles a week. Not groundbreaking stuff, but an increase for me. I've been able to run 6 miles pretty comfortably at a 9-min./mile pace. I am going to enter a 10K run here in the next 1-2 months.

My goal is to run a half-marathon in 2015.

I picked up new shoes a couple of months ago; Saucony Ride 7's. I love 'em. Light, but yet offer good stability. First time wearing Saucony (was a Brooks guy) and am glad I made the switch.

          Re: OS Running Thread

I've been getting back into running. Started off with a mile a day for the first week, then upped it to 1-1/2 the second week, then on week 3 we were moving to 2 mile but I felt a intense pain in left left knee about half way through. The next day we started off and I only made it maybe a hundred yards before I couldn't stand the pain coming from my knee anymore. The following day from that I could barely walk which was when I knew I strained something. So I started looking up potential issues, when I came across runners knee and ITBS. So took a couple of the self assessment tests and everything leaned to ITBS, pain on side of knee, no pain doing squats, yadda yadda yadda. So I took off two weeks, iced it every day after work, and as of yesterday I feel I'm back to start running again. Going to test it out this Thursday.

Good luck man. When I got back into running I had a problem with my left lower leg. I had to take a break for a couple weeks. I started back slower and haven't had any issues since. Be sure not to do to much too soon or you can injure yourself.

I strained my achilles last cross country season and then fractured my fibula as soon as I got healthy. It's a pretty rough injury, but you'll bounce back. Keep your chin up!

Thanks man, I started back Friday and everything felt great. Yesterday I decided to push it and full out sprint a mile. Endurance wise it was little rough, but knee wise it feels great. I am thinking the shoes I was using had something to do with it.

I've been using the Asics Gel Nimbus 14's but there is a slight pitch toward your little toes, I noticed it the other day and think this could be putting stress on the outside of the knee.

So I switched to my New Balance Minimus which are more flat footed "weight lifting shoe" but I like the stability even for running. So far it seems like a world of a difference in my gait.

                    Re: OS Running Thread

Alright, so I just recently started getting into running. Not really looking to get into like marathons and what not, but I like just going for a 1-3 mile run after work to kind of chill out and maintain the endurance level that I currently have.

The problem is that I don't have running shoes; I basically run in bricks, and I'd like to buy a pair of actual running shoes. Since I'm not looking to be super competitive or anything like that, I'm probably just looking for something that's a good bang for my buck.

                    Suggestions?
                    NFL: Bills
                    NBA: Bucks
                    MLB: Cubs
                    NCAA: Syracuse

I'm a big fan of the Brooks Defyance, Ghost and Pure Flow shoes. The Saucony Ride 7's that I'm currently wearing are fantastic, and I'd say the best shoe for me that I've ever worn.

You can find a quality shoe for $80-100. The ones I listed are all $100 or slightly over. The shoes will last up to 500 miles, so it's worth the investment.

Be careful with that.. The Minimus have no support so you're going to be putting a lot more shock into your knees and shins as you run more and more. Those are great if you just want to get out and run a faster 5K or something along those lines.

I'm an Asics guy, so I'd say you can't go wrong with the Asics GEL-Exalt if you purely want bang for your buck. They're $50 right now compared to their usual $85.

Second Asics shoes if you are just starting out. I don't wear them anymore but did for my first few pairs and my legs and knees thanked me.

Yea I was keeping that in line but just based on the injury location it didn't seem to be from the shock or impact. It felt more along the lines of something out of sync, but all in all you right I will keep a eye on it.

Did my first 30km race today and I enjoyed the distance. It wasn't a full out gasser like a half and didn't mash me up like a marathon. It helped that it was an evening race and unseasonably cool. Overall a winner.
