Re: OS Running Thread
True, but I've never competed in an actual 10K race. I've been working on staying around the 8:30/mile mark for all 6 miles. That last 1.5 miles there's a little dip in my time but overall, I'm pretty happy with where I'm at.Currently Playing:

Kev - I just got it today. Nice fit, although I thought it was the Adi equivalent of dri-fit. Still, I bought it for the cause.
Also, my running is mainly on treadmill, and jeez is it boring. I do a sub 8(barely) mile...which I'm not too happy but I attribute that to the fact that it's on a treadmill which is obscenely boring to run on. I'm going to move to running outside on weekends and timing myself there.Comment

Re: OS Running Thread
That's been my struggle with running. There aren't many good places to run around here that don't involve the park by the college campus or the gym. I get tired of running around people and their dogs at the park.
People also walk with their kids a bunch. They have every right to, but it's not an ideal place for me to run unless it's mid day or there's not many people there. I have even ran some days where it was raining.
I need a new pair of shoes to run in. I bought a new pair of Nike running shoes a few months ago, but I have almost wore them out running in them.
I may look to try a different brand. I always stick to Nike, but I hear Pumas and Addias are also good.Comment

Re: OS Running Thread
I got tired of getting home after work and running so this marks the first week where I have done all my running as my commute. Two-a-days on the same route but hit 70 miles for the week with plenty of free time for a change.Comment

Re: OS Running Thread
CJ - If you are running sub 8 on the treadmill, you are going to tear it apart outside. Let us know how that goes because you will never go on the dreadmill again!
AU - I would suggest going to a local specialty running store to get fitted. Some companies (Nike, Asics) are just so expensive. I used to run in $120 Asics and then realized a pair of $60 Puma's were better. (For me, obviously people will have very different opinions)
Macho - That is awesome, such a great weekly mileage!
I ran the half in Wisconsin this morning and finished with a 1:44 flat (7:56 pace). Still not the 1:39 PR, but I was excited because this was my first race without a Garmin and ran just on feel. I got the idea from a book (Born to Run) that preached the philosophy of just run...forget the watch, forget your pace...just run to run. A great feeling, that's for sure!
I am taking this year off from full marathons and just want to focus on that half marathon time. I think in the fall I might sign up for a half marathon on a Saturday and Sunday...I always thought that would be a unique challenge.
A girl from high school messaged me and she wants to get into running. I was a little hesitant at first because I hate running with people because of pace differences. However, it might be a great way to notch up the mileage with easy/comfortable runs. Thoughts on this? Miles are miles right...even if I am going a lot slower?Last edited by Kevin26385; 05-04-2013, 04:28 PM.Comment

As for your last comment ... The best thing you could do is pass your love of running on to someone else. When my wife commented a couple of years ago that she wanted to start running with me, I had those same initial fears about having to go slow, etc. But, it turned out to be a lot of fun. I enjoyed watching her improve and liked giving out advice where I could. We mostly run alone now due to my schedule, but I know if I hadn't started her off, she wouldn't be doing it today. And yes, she ran the 5K with me today and did awesome!Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
DJ - Congrats on the time and appreciate the advice! Congrats on conquering the climbs. My half had rolling hills throughout the course, I can't decide which is worse haha
By the way, some kid was running with his father during the race and I saw him at mile 13. My pride kinda took over because I couldn't lose to a kid right? I finished 26 seconds before him...but the kid was 9! That is ridiculous.Last edited by Kevin26385; 05-04-2013, 05:27 PM.Comment

Re: OS Running Thread
I used to be really overweight, but now for the past year I've started running almost every day and watching what I eat. I'm skinny now. I have lacrosse practice six days a week, but the season's over this Saturday. Then I'll return to running a minimum of 3 miles a day. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I run on the roads. I can do a 7:15 mile not on the treadmill.I run to stay in shape but also find it to be a good stress reliever. I run with my Ipod/headphones, which is fun.Ravens: In Ozzie We Trust

Re: OS Running Thread
For someone who just started running on a consistent basis last week, how good is 2.07 miles? I just ran that yesterday morning. Felt really good.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: OS Running Thread
It is great! All about progress. Next week go for three miles and see how that feels. Onwards and upwards, just don't do what so many people do and add too many miles too soon. A lot of people recommend no more than a 10% increase per week.Comment
