Exactly! They sell minivans for a reason. A different reason than that which they sell motorcycles. That line was a tongue in cheek metaphor. I expect the metaphorical family in the minivan to be happy about their trip to 6 Flags or wherever my subconscious decides they are going

And good post, deadduck. Some discussions are not about thesis/antithesis. This is not about whether or not having kids can be a fulfilling and wonderful thing. This is about the many sides of choosing NOT to have kids. For example, my side is bliss. Some people have come in and discussed timing, finances, etc. There have been a bunch of parents that have come into this thread and offered perspective, but the ones coming in and saying "I wouldn't trade my kids for anything" are missing the entire point.

      This is my point.

You're so focused on selling the joys of fatherhood you're barely reading what anybody else wrote.

I posted a long time ago in this thread (and then pointed back to it agian to clarify my position)....I love kids and likely would have wanted them....but my wife didn't and now can't.

What I have a problem with is the virtual threadjacking by happy fathers telling people what they're missing like the concept of fatherhood is a foreign concept to them. Like being a father is a secret society with things nobody else can see from the outside.

Most of the pro fatherhood guys made good points and shared their viewpoints...then moved on. Only a handful have stuck around to "counter" anybody who feels differently that them.

You're like those kooky folks who picket outside places they don't want to go into...just don't go in. But get the hell out of the way of anybody who does.

Re: Anybody else glad that they DON'T have kids?

I will just say this. When you have a little kid that comes up to you and give you a kiss or a hug and looks just like you did when you were that age and does the same things you did at that age. Then you will understand just how much joys they're to being a parent. There is nothing better than having a hard day at work and having your look a like or mini me coming up and giving you a hug or waiting for you at the door for you to come inside. It would melt anybody. So those that don't wont kids. I am cool with, that it is your choice, but like I said earlier just thank your mom and dad for not deciding that or else you would not be posting here. Even if you were a mistake they still had you, so thank them for that. I for one I'm glad my mom and dad decided to have one more kid after trying a bunch of times before that. .

Unless I impregnate Serena Williams, I'm pretty sure my 5'4", 130 lbs body doesn't contain a future sports star.

Unless chess just became a sport.

And Serena Williams would break me in ****ing half.

Isn't that kind of deep. Your child could be on the one to cure cancer, but yet you decided to not have one. Now that is deep.

Straight up, maybe that is why some feel like not having kids. I think I am done with kids though. 2 is enough and at almost 39 this two year old is kicking my ***. With consent fever lately and already had one seizure because of it and I had to call 911, so I think I am done with making more babies.

A+ post. Especially the part in bold. Would definitely read again.

For the record there is nothing wrong with not wanting kids. You are not more selfish if you don't want kids. Kids are not for everyone and that is cool too. Best to luck in all your guys lives. PEACE.

I want kids and I always thought I would have had a few by now, but I'm glad I don't because I am in no position to have kids...LOL

You're not understanding what I wrote. I'm not upset w/ anyone's decision not to have kids, and I respect those who decided not to have them. That is a responsible decision. My issue is don't say having kids derailed my dreams, without acknowledging too that having kids can accelerate someone's career like I mentioned in previous posts. Don't act as if because my kid is acting up in Target that I would want to change places w/ you at the drop of a dime, and go back to being "single guy". Just don't act like your life is better, and when someone proclaims that their child brings them unimaginable joy don't shrug off their feelings and "cliche" them.

If I'm the kooky guy who is picketing outside places, you're the annoying co-worker who jumps into someone's conversation without even knowing what their talking about.
