Zombie Apocalypse is easy.... they are gortesque sub-human lifeforms, dispatch of them as you would a cockroach or some other creature which you find digusting.

But as Cuse has mentioned below...that's when survival is put to the REAL test. I say if there is to be any semblance of civilization I would work together to survive w/ someone.

All of these will kill indiscriminately thus surviving will not be a matter of wills but blind luck.

Assuming you did survive the Opening round of the Apocalypse, It basically comes down to if you can kill. If you can kill another human being to survive then you will live that much longer. Without any semblance of order, The strongest will live, the weakest will die. Could you kill another person for a bottle of water?

Exactly. The most basic of needs for humans 100-200 years ago were hard to come by. In Today's world we take those basic needs for granted.

Yea... the M-16 has to be cleaned way too damn much. The AK would be a suitable option.

        A. The sound alone announces where you are if you have to use it. And if it's zombies or scavengers...not a great thing.

        B. Ammo. That's gonna run out and then you're back to putting yourself in iffy situations to get more.

Something that is interesting to me is if everything was indeed destroyed, would we be able to recreate the things we have now? I think what would be a huge shift would be the immediate realization of what is necessary and what isn't, so there wouldn't be a direct need for an Iphone. However, how many of us know how to tend a garden or hunt and fish? Can you make fire? Of course, this is assuming that we are starting from absolute nothing.

But, it does steer you in the direction of appreciating the specific necessities that are at our disposal right now.

DaveDQ - The only reason right now many of us don't know how to do basic things as you mention in your post is because there are so many people simply in existence that we can all be very specialized. Kind of like if you had 1 doctor in a town he has to be a jack of all trades but if you have 50 they can all pick specialties. I just wanted to point that out because so many people think of how disgraceful it is that people can't do the basics...it's not because people don't care to, it's because we live in a specialized society.

With that being said, if we took a huge population hit we'd have to go back to the basics and everyone would have to learn most, if not all, of them. We'd go back from being specialists to being jack-of-all-trades. But in time, we'd get enough population that it wouldn't be necessary for everyone to know how to farm, build fires, build housing, etc.

That's a good point, but I think it relates more to the basics of essential life skills than to specific trades. I agree that the positive now is that we have a place to go to that specializes in one particular area (rather than general practice). But basic things like cooking and knowing what is edible and how to prepare it is something many know not of.

The point that would apply to me is that such a situation (apocalypse) would force me to learn and evolve. Where it wasn't important or necessary for me to know how to do a specific essential before, if I want to live it is absolutely necessary for me to learn and master it.
