    Mmmm, Stranahan's Colorado whiskey.

We also recently got Leopold Bros. to move here, which is great because now we have all these incredible small-batch spirits floating around in cocktails everywhere around town. Their gin is ridiculous.

I never thought I'd see someone refer to Beam as "awesome". For my 22nd birthday I tried to drink an entire handle of it in one day, starting at 9am. Blacked/passed out with three shots left around midnight.

Maker's Mark and Knob Creek are my two favorites these days. For sipping purposes only of course.

Best sipping whiskey i've had was a bottle of Basil Hayden Bourbon I bought on our honeymoon earlier this year. Smoothest stuff you will ever taste.

For mixing purposes, I really enjoy Jim Beam Red Stag (black cherry infused bourbon) and Coke. Tastes like Cherry Coke.

Jack Daniels and Jim Beam are both absolute garbage, as are the vast majority of American whiskies. They are basically just mass produced, low quality crap with a brand name slapped on them.

If you're talking decent whisky (minus the E of course) that is affordable then Crown Royal is the standard for a bottle under $30 IMO.

Phobia did mention Crown Royal XR (Extra Rare) and I happen to have an unopened bottle of it in my cabinet right now that I picked up a few months ago and am just saving for the right occasion. I didn't pay $190 for my bottle though, I find a source that has them for $131.95 which is a steal so I might pick up another bottle or two before they're gone because 37 year old, high-quality Canadian whisky doesn't grown on trees anymore!

I'm not a big Scotch drinker though, I never acquired a taste for it I guess but there are literally over 1000 brands of Scotch that absolutely destroy any American whiskey, bourbon or sour mash garbage that the average troglodyte consumes at their local pub on a nightly basis.

Think I'm a snob when it comes to whisky? You should see me in the beer thread!

P.S. If your whiskey is so crappy that you need to mix it with anything besides a glass, rocks or a splash of water, then you should probably really consider upping your standards.

Knob Creek, now thats a blast from the past.

Haven't touched any whiskey since I got alcohol poisoning my Senior year of High School. Drank a fifth of Jim Beam in about 45 minutes while lying on a hotel room bed. Got up to go to a party and it literally took me 15 minutes to put my shoes on.

Got to the party, sat down on a couch and the next thing I remember is waking up being surrounded by about 5 girls just starring out me like I've just woken up from a coma. Get up from the bed and my shorts fall straight to the ground.

Ask the girls who's clothes these are and they tell me that I had vomited on the ones I had wore and the girl who's house the party was at had to change me and put some of her dads clothes on me. Thankfully she was one of my former girlfriends who I'd stayed good friends with, so she didn't mind.

One of the more embarassing experiences of my life. Not to mention the fact that everything I ate or drank tasted like Jim Beam for about the next 3 days.

Now you are just talking out of your ***. America has the same amount of crap and quality than any other country, it's just that typically only the best are cost efficient enough to export.

Anyway, for those that like Maker's Mark, try Bernheim if you can find it. Basically Maker's is a wheat heavy bourbon and Bernheim takes it a step further (it's not really a bourbon, because it doesn't have enough corn, but it's made the same way).

Not really. We've only been making whiskey in America for around 200 years, whereas it's been made in Europe for well over 800 years. That's a gigantic difference.

The only liquor my father will drink is Maker's Mark on the rocks. I've tried it and...it's not for me.

I do enjoy some Crown on occasion, but I don't really drink much whiskey.

And where did those distillers come from? That's right, Europe. Mainly Scottish and Scots-Irish who came in, built farmsteads and distilled what they had. It's not like there was some caveman in the Americas that discovered distilling like they were discovering fire.

I actually like Beam. It's certainly not preferred to premier whiskeys but as a cost effective choice, I will take it over any of the other bottom shelf whiskeys.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was this thread that got bumped:

                                http://www.operationsports.com/forum...hlight=whiskey

Funny, most people in thread were in that one as well.
