    Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I've had dreams about topics I was studying in school on more than one occasion. I remember dreaming about tautomerization after we learned about it in organic chemistry (I wasn't the only person in my class to have a dream regarding a topic we were discussing as I over heard one of my classmates telling our professor about her dream about something we'd recently been learning) and also dreaming about subjects related to what my Masters thesis was on.. The brain actually does learn while it sleeps as it attempts to organize all the information it has gathered in recent days. It is for that reason that I think I could ice skate if I tried even though I have only been ice skating once in my life probably 15 years ago and couldn't do it. I occasionally have dreams that I am ice skating or playing some kind of intramural hockey.

In the dream, I am walking with a group of people near a store in our old neighborhood. I don't really recognize the people I am with. Anyway, as we're walking, I notice some money on the ground ahead of us. We all see it at the same time and run to pick it up.

When I stoop down to pick up the money, I see my friend's ID on the ground along with some other random stuff. I told the people I was with that they should give me all the stuff because I knew this girl and wanted to get it back to her. After getting everything I went into the neighborhood store and put it in the Lost N Found.

I thought it was pretty strange to have a dream about her out of the blue like that, but I didn't really think much on it til later that day. I got on Facebook and saw she had posted a status update (nothing out of the ordinary necessarily except she doesn't post much, like me), and it made me think of the dream. I posted on her wall the details of the dream and just as a joke I said, "Did you get your stuff?"

She was surprised because the very same day she had been the victim of identity theft. She said she had just gotten off the phone after having to get her money put back on her card after fraudulent charges had been made without her knowledge.

It won't prove anything to skeptics, but it is at least documented on my Wall.
      That's an interesting one.

I had an awful dream last night and thought of this thread this morning. This was a nightmare. I dreamed I was demon possessed and was moaning and grunting in my sleep. My wife woke me up by shouting, "David!" I told her I'm sorry and was having a really bad dream. It took a little bit of time to shake it off.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

        Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I have something weird that happens to me on a regular basis. I will wake up in the middle of the night and be deep in thought solving a complex problem I could not figure out at work. It's like my brain doesn't need that much sleep or something because it always happens around 2 in the morning and I don't go to sleep until around 11 pm. Now that I am teaching myself German, I have begun dreaming in German in addition to waking up in the middle of the night with my brain reviewing German vocabulary lists.

        Pretty strange...

i always have a dream where i am throwing either a baseball or football, and I can only throw it like 10 feet. Pathetic. I can never get a good grip on the football in my dream.

Yes, I hate that. What's worse is when something completely and utterly glorious is happening in my dream (often something desired in real life but having never come to fruition) and my conscious becomes so certain that what I'm experiencing in my dream is real and actually happening. There's such a feeling of relief and happiness. And, over time, my thought process in my dream has been able to accomodate prior dreams. That is, the thought of relief becomes, "Yes! It finally happened and this time I'm not dreaming!" Then of course, inevitably, right when I become convinced it's not a dream this time, I wake up. Then my entire day is ruined.

As an aside, I have kept a dream journal in the past and I'll be one guy to support the claim that if one keeps a dream journal, it will only provoke more dream recollection. There was a time where I was waking up remembering dreams about five times a week. The more you think about dreams and remembering them, the more likely you are to truly remember them.

              Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I lucid dream, and didn't realize what it was until an ex girlfriend told me about it - she was envious because she was so interested in it, yet couldn't do it despite trying.

I can usually tell when it's going to happen because I'll feel an intense buzz throughout my body as I'm lying down and about to fall asleep which feels kind of scary. I'm also totally paralized which is much much scarier. It's so freaky that I probably rob myself of more than half of my lucid dreams (or more) because I simply will myself awake or will myself to move even a little bit which kind of 'breaks' it. The feeling is horrid, so I can't just remind myself what's happening and relax.

When it does happen though it's amazing. It's like living in a holodeck or something. I can't usually choose what's happening though, it's more like things happen and seem 100% real, but that the rules of reality don't have to exist.

For example the absolute best dreams are when I start flying. There is no way to describe it, but it's simply amazing. The first time I flew in a dream was a consequence of a terrible dream where the land was being eaten up by lava and we were all going to die. For some reason my mother was there looking out the kitchen window and looked over at me crying. I ran outside and basically willed myself to levatate and fly...then I grabbed my mom and showed her how to do it until she was ok on her own and I started zipping around like superman.

So what I'm trying to say is that the possibilities are limitless, and everything seems 100% real, but it's not as if you (or at least I can't) create any situation I want. I'm never completely aware that it's a 'dream' with 100% certainty (otherwise I don't think it would be as cool)... For example I couldn't fill a room with 10/10 women and start banging them all...that situation would kind of already have to be there and within some type of context that I could accept.

Anywya, I'll never understand it, but at times it can truly be incredible.

                Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I have a lot of precognitive dreams. Probably once a week. During the day I start discussing something with a friend or someone, and it seems like we had the exact same conversation before. Then I realize it was in my dream a few days earlier. Or sometimes I dream about a comeback in a sport, and a few days later there is a game and one of the teams makes a comeback in the exact fashion I saw in my dream. I didn't know these types of dreams were normal. I thought I was the only one that had them.

I also have dreams where I do something amazing, like win the lotto or win the Stanley Cup. I am convinced that it is real and is not a dream. Then I wake up and find out that it was a dream even though in my dream I told myself it was not a dream.

                  Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I have never had a lucid dream in my life, I wish there was some way i could but whenever something bad happens to me in a dream I think I am in it forever until I wake up and have the relief of it not actually happening

                    Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I dream about work a lot. Usually I'm running late or I'm off that day but still come in. The other week I had a dream where I went to work and everything was all changed around. Like, ridiculous stuff. It's funny, though. In the dream we were taking orders manually (writing on paper), then a few days later, we had to do that because of a special on toppings we were having. I didn't even realize this until just now. Wow.

But last night I had a dream where my friend was drinking and I started drinking as well, then I realized I only had 2 hours until work so I couldn't do that. Then we were driving and, among other weird stuff, we end up like on a subway behind my GM and another co-worker. We ended up at a BBQ party or something, and for some reason my GM and that co-worker ended up showing up too.

Dreams are nuts. I think I had this dream about work because we just had a pretty crazy week so I guess that's what I've thought most about in the past few days.
