    Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

Thought this could be an interesting discussion. Lucid dreams are dreams in which the dreamer is aware they are dreaming while precognitive dreams are essentially dreams that come true to some extent at some point in the future. I seem to have a knack for having precognitive dreams and last night I had a rather powerful lucid dream. I've also had dreams within dreams.

For some reason I occasionally have a dream in which I wake up one morning to find that one or more of my teeth is loose to the point of falling out (I've never had so much as a cavity). Well, I had that dream again last night but this time I remember actually becoming instantly aware that I was dreaming and wondering why I keep having this dream while at the same time trying to make myself wake up.

Dreams are such a thought-provoking phenomenon.

Do you sleep hooked up to a dream machine, by chance?

Haha, the lucid dreams are pretty nice when you realize there are no consequences.

If those actually happen, the girl that I talk to in my Psych class has no idea that all this joking around we do is headed to a very dirty place.

            Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

I get precognitive dreams quite often. I'd say a month without one is rare.

Strangely, they always seem to be about interactions with people. These are full conversations and more than a few phrases in a row will match the dream verbatim.

However, I tend to believe these dreams are only in my imagination, and that my brain makes them up after the realization of the "prophecy".

Heh, well I've had quite a few. Sometimes it'll be like I'm having a conversation with someone and I get the strange feeling that I already had that conversation then realize I'd dreamt about having said conversation at somepoint in the past.

A few more of my most memorable examples.

              1. When I was in middle school I kept having dreams about finding secret passages in my middle/high school that lead to new areas. In one of these dreams I discovered a really nice lobby area. Well, one weekend my mom, sister, and myself along with my aunt and 3 cousins went to 7 Springs resort for a weekend and when we walked into the hotel we were staying at I realized that it bore a striking resemblence to the lobby in my dream. I'd never been to that hotel before, my previous trips to 7 Springs had been 1 day trips where we left in the morning and went home in the evening

              2. My sophomore year in college I had a dream that I got an Organic Chemistry test back and my score was an 85. Well that morning when we got the tests back (that much I knew was going to happen), lo and behold my score was an 85.

              3. One night I had a dream that my 10 or 11 month old nephew was at my moms house and he started crawling up the steps to the 2nd floor. Next morning I have an email from my mom saying she had been watching him the previous night and he'd done just that.

I have both types of dreams on a regular basis. Like 4 days out of the week. Why I can even enter other people dreams and interact with them.

Were you one of the precogs in Minority Report?

I almost never remember any of my dreams, so I have little to share. There's a few dreams that I remember from when I was younger, but I can't remember any dreams I've had in the last year.

I have these too. Mine are more rare though, probably 4 a year. I come to the same conclusion about them as you do. The mind is a very powerful thing.

And lucid dreams are just fun. Sometimes I feel like I semi-wake up and choose to stay in the dream.

                        Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

Yea precognitive dreams are pretty cool. But 99% of the them are NOT seeing the future. Instead dreams are a primal survival instinct. Primitive humans would of dreamed about threats they encountered such as Lions, bears, and beast that could kill them. So these primitive humans minds were pre-assessing situations before they happened. This behavior of the human mind gives us the ability to go through different situations that we could encounter so if we ever do we have a idea of "what to do, or how to handle it".

Jump ahead thousands of years and our current minds still do the same function. But instead it is assessing situations such as conversations with people we encounter, attempting thrills such as base jumping, and even primitive encounters with beast just like our ancestors. It is now addressing how to handle threats and different encounters with the things we deal with in our lives.

So basically most Precognitive dreams are situations our minds know ahead of time we might encounter. Such as conversations with people. Then when we are sleeping our mind goes into survival mode and figures out how we should handle those situations. Another cool part of how we are built to learn to deal with the world around us.

Last semester I had a dream that I ran into a guy I went to middle school with but hadn't seen i about 7 or 8 years. Even in my dream I remember thinking it was random that he was in my dream. The next morning I checked my facebook and had a friend request from him.

                              Re: Lucid or Precognitive Dreams

There are about 3 dreams that have repeated themselves for as long as I can remember. The first is one where I am in trouble and shouting but there is no sound. I can feel how wide my mouth is but still no sound. The second is that the light switch to my childhood bedroom is being turned on but the light does not work. There is great terror though in this dream. For some reason, the light will not turn on. What is very freaky is my parents replaced the bulbs with the newer ones that save energy. I was up there visiting this Summer and I switched the light and for a second freaked out because those lights take a little to turn on.

The third dream I have is one where I can leap to tremendous heights and float for some time. I absolutely love this dream. I feel myself leaping and floating from one spot to the next, through neighborhoods etc. I love that dream and just talking about it makes me hope it happens again soon.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.
