    Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

    I've always been a big boy....but I was pushing 270 again.....and at 45....not the same 265 I was at 35.

I started in November and am now down to 225. I'll drop 5 more and then bulk it up with all muscle. I've been working out, so I'm not down to nothing....but my body always responds on overload with what I do, so I can easily cut up like I was in my 20's.
    Funny how that never changed.

My wife and I did it together....just a lifestyle/eating change and she dropped about 20 herself!

Feels good to be beating the young guys in the department again!

It was deceptive, though - if you looked at me you would probably guess I was around 260-270 or so. But when I saw that number on the scale I knew I needed to make a change.

Like I said earlier though I lost sight of that goal so I am back on it. Seeing that you lost 70 pounds in four months really gives me hope that I can achieve myself! I have a series of long term goals, but the first one is to get down to 233 so I am no longer medically obese. That would be a loss of 46 pounds from my starting weight at the beginning of the year. I know I will be able to get there by the end of April if I follow my rules!

Went to the doctor last night and got a ****ton of medication for this. I've been laying around at home all week feeling miserable. Doc thinks it might be mono, and is definitely tonsillitis. I've been running fevers up to 103 degrees. So I am getting a late start to my exercise regimen, and am really just focusing on eating healthy. Luckily I have no appetite so it's not difficult at all right now.
Funny how you say it was kind of deceptive. I used to get the same thing. When I was at 300 my buddies used to guess I was in the 270. Broad shoulders I think. Even now at just under 230 some folks have guess I'm 200 -205.
Good luck with that mono man. I had it like 12 years ago. Takes months(really) to get back to normal. Totally saps your strength.

        Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

        Great thread.

As for me, I do need to drop about 25 pounds. I am currently 6'6" and weigh in at 260. I was 245 last summer and felt pretty good, but of course the holidays came around and the pounds were packed on. I knew it would happen and I should have done something to combat it, but I didn't.

In my line of work, being fit and somewhat in shape is something that everyone needs to strive for.

Ultimately, I'm shooting for a goal weight of 230-235. If I simply clean my eating up, I should get there by April or May. Losing weight isn't hard for me, it's the keeping it off and making a lifestyle change that gets me. I rarely drink beer anymore because I'm a bottomless pit with it. Eating late at night is another killer because I don't get off of work until 10 PM.

I love playing sports and wish I did it more... I've thought of P90x but a big part of me just wants to do it the old fashioned way. Running, lifting weights and keeping the diet in check. Those are the things that will enable me to succeed.

          Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

Also, to kind of fuel my own motivation, I graduated high school at 225. Within six years, I was pushing the scales at 290. I might have even gotten a pound or two from 300, but as others have said, that weight for me was very deceptive because I'm 6'6" and have broad shoulders. At 6'6" and 290, I probably looked like I weighed anywhere from 250-260 and people were shocked when I said 290.

About two years ago I made the decision to try and get back down to my high school weight. I have more muscle mass now so 225 is out of the question and I'd honestly probably look like I was on crack if I was at that weight again. Anyway, I was able to get down to 238 at my lowest, but have since gotten away from that. I know I'll be 250 at the least by summer, but that's really not good enough for me. I've done it once and I can do it again so I know my goals are attainable.

            Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I just went to the Doctor last week for my follow up to my 50 year check up. 6 months ago I weighed 240 last week 260. I am a fat load of crap. The Doc says I need to drop 50 pounds at least . I'm going to see if I can do it in a year. I usually gain weight in the winter because being a self employed painter work slows down so I'm usually sitting on my butt playing video games from Thanksgiving until things pick back up in late January early February.

Going to cut way back on the eating. No more crap food. I eat way to much unhealthy take out food. Going to start walking a few miles a day as well to start off.

Restarting P90x on Monday as I sustained a minor injury to my left arm making an arrest Friday. Turned into a battle but I still got it done Going to just hit the treadmill tomorrow and then start banging away with P90x.

Try the Flat Belly Diet for Men.
Tough to get used to at first...but it's good at attacking visceral fat and that's a killer for guys over 40.
It's got a good base as far as diets go and it's really more of a lifestyle change than an actual "follow this diet" type of regimen.
                  Just give it a look.

I'm on Nexium because I've always had an effed up stomach. I get heartburn from eating a banana.

But this phenomenon is well before Nexium started.

I want it to be mostly muscle as I am just way too skinny now and it is really hard for me to gain weight.

I started eating the right way about 3 weeks ago (no fast, junk food or soda) and have already gained 5 pounds. I joined the gym and just started working out using a program made for me to gain weight and size.

Well, I don't get the heartburn anymore because of the medicine. Bad mentality, I know.

Also, I looked for cereal, we had some but the milk was a week old, and this was literally the only other thing to eat.

25 was nothing. My stomach is a black hole, remember? That was basically an appetizer.
