After dropping from 196lbs last April to 163 earlier this year, I've been slacking off bad and let myself go back up to 175. I've been meaning to get back into exercising and happened to look at the calendar and saw that there were only 89 days left in the calendar year. So I decided to start P90X.

In previous attempts I've made it as far as about 5 weeks in before life got in the way, but I'm determined to make it work this time. I'm going to slightly modify the program though and substitute running for some of the kempo/yoga/plyo workouts (at least in the beginning) since my cardio levels are pretty bad right now. Plus I just enjoy jogging outside with my dog more than doing cardio videos inside, so I'm hoping it will help me stick to it. I'll probably miss out on some results by not doing all the workouts but I figure if it helps me get through the full 90 days of exercising 6 days a week I'll be just fine.

Going to try and take your advice Jonesy and start getting into working out early to eliminate any chances of skipping workouts after work for one reason or another. I don't have to wake up quite as early as you, probably around 6:30AM but that's still about two hours earlier than usual. I'm hoping to get down to around 155lbs. - 160 by the end of it, I have a feeling I'm going to be practically living in that "Motivational pictures" thread you started for the next three months

      Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I've plateaued since August. My clothes I bought in June for work are lose, but still wearable. I need to pick up some jeans before the weekend so I can go out.

I'm moving in a little less than 2 weeks and I probably won't even take half of my clothes because they are simply way too big now. I get lost in an XXL shirt now, so I'm back down to XL which is nice because I always liked how they fit and I like XL polos because they're good at showing form. The thing is my shoulders and chest is bigger than when I used to wear XL's back in the day, so they fit even better now. I'm also wearing "modern fit" and slim fit dress shirts to work and love them. I've grown to hate lose necks now and like being able to "feel" my shirt on, if that makes sense. I don't think I remember being a 36 waist, though.

          Yessirrrr

Was 42 waist and 2XL shirts before the sick workout and diet. Now I wear L shirts (some XL depending on shirt) and 36 waist. Getting so solid and ripped.

Loving it, and definitely easier shopping.

Yeah shopping in much more enjoyable now that's for sure. It's kinda funny because before I would HATE any shirt that was a even a little bit tight and now I kinda don't like loose fitting shirts and prefer ones that fit closer to the body. Hope I'm not turning into a douchbag!!!

I better not dress like this in a few years!!!

I went back through my workout journal for the last 2 months and in the last 60 days I lifted weights 43 times. Consistent as a mofo.

Hit a new PR on a few lifts this morning (deadlift and barbell row) so strength is still going up despite being in a deficit. Today will be my 5th consecutive day on 1500 cals per day then I have a maintenance day tomorrow (2500cals) and a refeed day the following day (4000 cals) then back to 1500 cals. This way I average 2000cals per day which with my workouts and cardio is enough to drop 1-2 lbs per week but the cal spikes stop my body getting used to the lower cals and start adapting plus I get to eat some good stuff once a week as a reward.

I tried a pre-workout supp for the first time in years this morning. I tried a sample of 1MR (stands for 1 more rep) that came with my bodybuilding.com order and I gotta say I was impressed! I wasn't jittery and it didn't come on too strong but it gave me great sustained energy throughout the whole workout and cardio. I have a 50 day supply of a pre workout called Dark Energy there to try next, hope it's as good!

Supplements are SO cheap for you guys over there. I bought some Xtend here in Australia and it was $60 for 90 serves. In my order from bb.com that arrived yesterday I got Sci fit BCAA's 1332 serves (not a typo, literally enough to last me years) for like $80 before shipping. I am now set for BCAA's for a long *** time!!!

Easier isn't what I would use. More enjoyable perhaps? In fact, before I basically would just buy the same sizes in jeans and t-shirts and never really try anything on because I preferred loose clothes to...mask my body frame. Now, I'm all about getting a good fit out of my clothes especially my dress shirts. It also doesn't help that one brand's XL is like an XXL for another brand and so on. So while its more time consuming, its also more enjoyable because I like the way I can dress myself now.

Ain't that the truth! I used to buy a lot of closes off the net but had to stop because of the huge discrepancies in size. I've had XL's that were too tight and Large's that were way too big etc..

Ugg, I fell off the wagon for a couple of weekend days the past two weeks and gained 9lbs back. Weekend days will be more structured, count on it. Interesting if you go off track, you will put the lbs back on quickly.

So, this week, I was so ticked, I started drinking more water and getting to the gym. It's already resulted in losing 5 of those 9 llbs. I'm starting to think that drinking a ton of water, (drinking more than a galleon a day, really really aids in the weight loss)

I could care less if I'm hitting the bathroom an extra 3 or 4 times per day.

                  Time to hit the gym.

Seeing as I'm (finally) moving out on my own in about a week and in total control of what food is in my place, I was wondering what "snacks" you guys keep that are healthy and filling? Lately I've been going through gum to just get that feel of munching.

Also, what are some (easy/not time consuming) meals you guys recommend? I don't want to just end up eating a bowl of cereal every other night.

I found this to be an interesting read, and some good information here...

                          5 Surprising Health Myths
I was working late one night last week when my wife walked into the room and interrupted my frantic typing. “I need to ask you something important: Do you think you can do this forever?”

I looked up from my computer, unsure if she was asking about my typing or our week-old marriage.

                          “Excuse me?”

Then she clarified: “Do you think you can write about nutrition and fitness forever?

My answer could have just been “yes,” but when it comes to health, nothing is ever as simple as it should be. So instead of telling her why I was confident about my future, I decided to show her how many dangerous mistruths still exist.

You would think that I would run out of things to write about, but health seems to change on a weekly basis. There are minor changes, like finding out that coffee might boost fat loss in men—but not women—or that toning shoes actually don’t help improve your body (Ok, maybe that wasn’t much of a surprise). But the bigger problems are myths that persevere, no matter how much research is published or anecdotal information proves them incorrect. Consider the following the statements. Can you identify which ones are false and which are true?

The latest research indicates a diet high in saturated fat causes cardiovascular disease.
Eating late at night makes you more likely to store fat.
Eating multiple meals (4-6) speeds your metabolism more than eating fewer meals (2-3).
Egg yolks are bad for your cholesterol.
A high-sodium diet is one of the biggest problems causing high blood pressure.

Now some of the answers might seem pretty obvious. If that’s the case, I’m happy. I want people to be informed and knowledgeable about their health. But when I shared this quiz with a panel of hundreds of adults, on average, they responded correctly to only one question. (For the record, my wife scored better than the average, but she still got a couple questions wrong) So it might surprise you to know that the answer to each question is FALSE. You read that right. A quick overview would show you that:

My snacks consist of cottage cheese with salsa, or berries, smoothies with water/some milk with berries or a banana every now and then.

Deli turkey that is low in sodium.

For dinners, it's chicken with a veggie, either grill them or use a Forman grill. Buy chicken breast in bulk, cheaper that way. Also, I like ground turkey with veggies.

Try to stay away from cuts of meat that have a lot of fat. The website I use recommends flank steak, but that is too expensive, so if and when I have steak, I'm make sure it's a sirloin.

For breakfast, it's either egg whites with maybe one egg yolk, scrambled with mushrooms, green peppers, etc...... or oatmeal mixed with egg whites or fiber one/granola cereal mixed with the whey protein w/some milk and water.

Protein, protein and protein and veggies to boot. If you are looking to fruit, stick with strawberries and blueberries as they are lower in sugar.

                            Hope that helps.

Damn man I can't like that post enough.

The saturated fat thing is so true. A decent amount of saturated fat is crucial for men in maintaining good moods and sexual performance. Ever been on a really low fat diet? It usually results in feeling depressed, lethargic and with reduced libido. Not cool at all. Eat your steak, eggs, cheese and nuts people!

Now Denmark has even taken the stupid step of imposing a 'health tax' on saturated fat and there is talk Australia may possibly follow suit. What they need to do is tax highly processed carb's but you won't see that happen because the huge food companies have too much power....

Had my first weigh in this morning since officially starting my cut 5 days ago.

                              3rd of October: 95kg (209.4lbs)
                              7th of October: 93.6kg (206.3lbs)

                              Off to a good start.

As for the late night snacking question I like low fat Greek yoghurt or low sugar low fat flavoured yoghurt with some frozen blueberries dropped in there and stirred up. Tastes like it should be bad for you but is less than 200 cals and kills my cravings for something sweet. Nice source of anti-oxidants as well with the berries. If you feel like you HAVE to have cereal you guys have Kashi GoLean cereal over there that we don't and it's not that bad overall...

Weekends are always the hardest part for me too Roadman. I know this will always be a problem for me so that's why I do the calorie cycling and have my high day (4000 cals) on saturday. Way to get back on the horse buddy keep kicking ***!

You know, sometimes the "conspiracy theorists" are on to something...

Tax the saturated fats, promote them as being so bad for you, reduce the libido, make men more angry and lethargic, reduce reproduction abilities in men...

(Thankfully I had an ex-GF who was fantastic at research, because she loved to cook things from scratch, and she did her research thoroughly, and found out that mono and poly saturated fats are ESSENTIAL and needed in a healthy lifestyle. Anyhow... you are so right, this thread is a gold mine for us! I love reading it every day!

And I do the yogurt thing with blueberries or strawberries if I get very hungry late at night. Or just eat some fresh strawberries, low in sugar, and kills the sweet craving as you said. And satisfies me enough till I sleep.
