    Re: The Nostalgia Thread

On-tv from the 80s. Before cable it was On-TV in the 80s. It was a trip, during the day it showed cartoons, evening and early night movies, then late at night it showed adult movies.

So came 11pm, wasn't allowed to watch it at all.

Then I remember first getting cable. It was only one HBO and it was channel 17, one Showtime and it was channel 18 and one cinemax, it was channel 24. Cable was so simple back then.

I think it was called Prime Cable of Chicago or something like that, but a couple years later Comcast bought them out. I also remember the cable remote control was small and the size of an Iphone 4.

Decoder boxes? The little black boxes? I loved that thing -- late night I'd go to the "nasty channels" and flip back and forth to get a glimpse lol

I was an OG pirater recording pay per view and selling at school haha. Never got caught but the box ended up breaking. Then graduated to burning cds.

But it all started making mix tapes and recording stuff on the radio.

Yep that's my main memory of them also whenever there was a big boxing card my father would invite all his friends and we'd all watch. It was hilarious as we'd enjoy everything until the Main Event and then everyone complained about how bad/short they were LOL.

General Instruments had a cable box where all you had to do was unscrew it, open it up and there was an actual chip in it that controlled what was scrambled. We would pull it to where it was half in and got all the channels.

The cable company caught on to it and here's how they dealt with it. They put a sticker on the bottom of the box that covered where the box separated. If you separated the box the sticker would tear.

People responded with taking a blow dryer to the sticker, which in turn would loosen the glue on the sticker and make it so it would pull away without tearing.

Looking back I think it's quite funny how easy it was to get free cable.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

You were not a man unless at one time in your life you watched scrambled adult entertainment lol

Interwebs make it too easy these days.

Reading through this last page reminds me of how hard we had to work in order to look at some porn back then.

I know I wasn't the only one who got excited when the brand new JC Penny catalog showed up in the mail.

Kids today don't understand how hard the struggle really was.

But then they wouldn't be LA Lights.

Man ya'll had it made with the Decoder Boxes LOL.

I didn't have one so if I wanted to watch porn on Playboy or the Spice Channel, I had to watch thru the squiggly lines and watch at a certain time(early in the morning before going to school) just to get a decent picture.

Reading through this last page reminds me of how hard we had to work in order to look at some porn back then
HBO/Cinemax/Showtime had that "Ok" Porn but the Playboy and Spice Channels had that good, quality stuff. Stuff that you couldn't see on the other 3 channels.

Every neighborhood had the kid that stole some nasty VHS from his dad's secret stash.
