Re: The Nostalgia Thread
Some things I'd been thinking of lately that I'll never get to do again:
1.) I remember as a kid, picking up PC gaming magazines that came with demo disks. Not CDs - disks. There would usually be a few games on them and the magazine was always wrapped, so you never quite knew what you were going to get other than what was listed on the cover. I even remember getting these magazines when I was in England and I couldn't wait to fly home and finally play them. Hell if I remember any of the games, but it's a great memory.
2.) PC game rentals. I don't even know if it's legal anymore, or if stores even do it - but when I was in grade 7-8, I used to go to the rental store near my school and rent a game here and there. Games were often protected by words in the manual that you had to type in. I often just started the game a whole bunch of times and copied words down so that I'd have a good list once I returned the game and manual.
3.) NES rentals. The good old days of gaming - the game I remember renting the most was Legend of Zelda. Of course, most game rental places didn't give maps or extras in the box, and some didn't even give the manual. Zelda is one of those games that you need the map to really be able to play - as there was no internet back then. If you had Nintendo Power, though, I'm sure there was an issue with a map and all the tips. I don't think I ever even made it to the first dungeon in that game - never knew what to do. Playing it now, I have the map and I'm working on dungeon 3.
It was a great day when my dad or uncle would take me to the video store to pick up 1 or 2 NES games - which you only rented for 2-3 days.
Being a kid was a great, great time. Wouldn't really want to go back - but the memories of stupid little things that these days mean nothing are fantastic.Last edited by st67; 09-18-2011, 09:23 PM.Comment

Re: The Nostalgia Thread
First Xbox game I really played extensively. I still play it on occasion...
The presentation in that game has only been matched by NFL 2K5. It is a real shame that, all these years later, the presentation still can't match up to these two games.

I was a diehard NASCAR fan as a kid, so this movie was one of my favorites:

I know it's not as good, but get some vanilla flavoring and pour in a regular coke. That's how we made 'em when requested at the restaurant. Same thing for cherry coke or, once or twice, chocolate coke.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Nostalgia Thread
I was just sitting over here thinking that a lot of people on this site never even experienced televisions with UHF/VHF dials. I'm only about to turn 31, but I can remember being young and having to deal with those. I even had a black and white on at one point lol.Comment

Yep, my first tv I had in my bedroom when I was a kid was black & white. No remote, you had to turn the dial.Comment
