Personally I don't. I just want the gov't and press to get the story straight...at least the one that's not a sec. risk. It's changes several times and it bugs me. Reminds me of the game we all played as kids where you whisper in the persons ear next to you "teacher eats dog poop" and by the time it gets back to you it's "preacher wears ear hoops", ya know?

As of 11pm CST on 5/5, he's still dead, I guess that's the main point.

I think this is the problem with them releasing entirely too much information too fast. This was a classified special ops mission that took place just 5 days ago. I think that only necessary information should have been released not specific details of the raid.

Maybe your right, i just thought that with 10 years, we could of gone beyond that and moved on. Dwelling on the past can only bring hardship right?

9/11 changed America forever. We can't just go beyond that and move on. Tell that to the many New Yorkers who have to see Ground Zero everyday. The military and civilian workers who work in the Pentagon. All the famalies who lost a loved one, the employees who lost a co-worker, the Firefighters and Police officers who lost a brother. The witnesses who saw people jumping to their deaths.

Or the thousands of American troops who have deployed, many mulitple times, many giving life and limb, in the hunt for this guy.

I wouln't call it dwelling either.

No offense is meant, and I am only making a broad assumption, but I have to think that your age at the time of 9/11 has to cloud your thinking on this subject.

You were 13. You were not old enough to understand that everything in the world had changed. Not old enough to realize that the United States had just taken a sucker punch to the jaw not seen since 1941.

You probably watched the whole thing unfold like the rest of us. The difference is, there was no way for you to really comprehend what was going on and how it would affect the rest of your life. Hell, your life hadn't even really begun yet.

I was 21, and my interpretation of the event is no doubt different than someone who was 31 or 41. Hell, if I had been a dad then as I am now, I know my interpretation of the event would be miles different than it was.

In short, and again I mean no disrespect, you may not be the best person to question whether or not we should have "moved on."

Also, and this is the last I will say on the subject, for anyone who can't understand the anger and hatred directed toward bin Laden, go watch some video of the moments between the planes striking the towers and their collapse. Watch people hanging out of windows to escape the choking smoke and unthinkable heat. Watch - or worse, listen - to the people jumping out of windows to escape a fate worse than anything most of us can imagine. Watch people attempt to climb out of the windows only to fall to their death. And then watch police officers and fire fighters run into the buildings in an attempt to help, only to have the towers collapse moments later.

Then ask about anger, hatred, and revenge.

Can't believe that people think that this has ended. When one leader goes down, 25 stand up in that leaders place. Especially, considering (to them) this is a religious war. To the fundamentalist Muslim he is a hero and martyr, and that is looked upon with more favor than the western mind can possibly comprehend. Not like they are going to through their hands up and surrender their ideals and convictions. If anything, they will be more motivated than ever before. I suspect that 9/11 is just the tip of the iceberg. This "war on terror" will never end.

I guess you can safely say that the Bin Laden chapter of leadership has ended, but that is about it.

Of course Al-Qaeda is going to say that. They have been planning attacks against us for what, 2 decades. They were already planning future attacks, and attempted attacks, with Bin Laden dead or alive, that doesn't change. What does change is Al-Qaeda is now weaker and a huge resource to them is now gone.

Terrorism will never end but the biggest threat to America, Al-Qaeda can end and is weaker today then it was a week ago. Al-Qaeda is always threatening retalitation, they retaliate us because we are America and what we stand for but that retaliation is harder to carry out today more then ever.

I’ve been diligent in keeping my opinions to myself on this, but in reading some of the posts in here and seeing the live celebrations that took place, FOR ME, I was left with an uneasy feeling. Again, I’m not trying to start anything and I am very happy for those who were brought peace, closure, joy, justice, etc. by this act. I also feel the word is a better place with OBL gone. However, for me, that’s where it stops, and what starts is this unshakable feeling of sadness.

I can’t cheer because I know that the war isn’t over and in fact, it was escalated (“happiness to sadness”). I can’t cheer knowing that the amount of money spent (at least according to Yahoo) on this one man was at least 3 trillion when so many people here are suffering. I can’t cheer seeing people all over the country totally miss the point and turn this into a red vs. blue political thing or worse, a conspiracy theory thing (which I won’t go into out of respect to the TOS). And unfortunately, it doesn’t bring back the lives of those lost on that fateful day. I know that none of this is “the point”, but it’s all sitting there with me. Anyone who’s a fan of The Wire will get this analogy.

Ozymandias creates world peace by creating a common enemy that the world must ban together to protect themselves from. “The smartest man in the world” knew that the only way peace could be achieved was to create a common threat.

Nationally, this was the case after 9/11 (and again, with this most recent news). However, this unity and patriotism is always going to be at the expense of an out group. Unfortunately, this extreme hatred and polarized thinking that I’ve seen (i.e. our country is the innocent good guys fighting against pure evil) often extends to anyone who looks like “the enemy” or is of a similar faith. It sucks but that’s the way it is.

I remember reading a study that stated something to the affect of bullying of people of middle eastern decent increased like 500% after 9/11 (I know I probably have the figures wrong). I really wish that after 9/11, we could have truly banded together as a country and learned something, but I felt that all the unity was short-lived, it was at the expense of an out-group, and things eventually went back to normal so those who were included eventually went back to being excluded as dividing lines were quickly restrengthened. I just wish we could have taken more away.

I don’t know if it’s by nature or socialization, but the fact is we are competitive and want to believe we know what’s best and are the best. I saw the reactions to OBL’s death as a reminder of this and it made me a little sad is all. Again, I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade or anything as I really am happy for those who have relief. I just felt I needed to voice my concerns. That’s why I love this great country. We can all have differing opinions and emotions and it be perfectly okay (even if sometimes I feel like an outcast or something is wrong with me for not celebrating)!

I wish everyone in this thread, no matter what their beliefs or where they are coming from peace and much love.

I heard a Pakistani man say they gave them airspace clearance to fly in their area but didnt assist in the raid... Was he also lying? who knows and does it matter?

Either way, it doesnt matter, no innocents were killed, it didnt take alot of money, and to come here and say people are being emotional but then saying you hate someone is ironic as it comes... hate is one of the most twisted emotions in humankind, and the exact same reason that has alot of you guys in here arguing in the first place

...and im not going to give any warnings...any political stuff is going to be a straight up BAN no questions asked. There has been more than enough leeway and I see this thread turning the wrong direction if certain posters continue in a particular direction

We have killed thousands of innocent civilians in the process. We also have destroyed homes families and cities. We take out around 600+ civilians a year as per UN estimates. When it was the worst in 2003 when we war doing a ton of bomb runs we took out between 2000 and 20,000 civilians depending on which stats you quote. I'm not saying that we're as bad as he was, my point is simply that your personification of us as this infallible, moral entity in war isn't correct.

While true, killing innocent civilians isn't the goal and directive of the United States and our military abroad. Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda's main goal was and still is to kill civilians who are citizens of countries that are and allied with the United States. While it's a horrible byproduct of war and sometimes foreign occupation, we spend billions of dollars a year on humanitarian efforts, and rebuilding or strengthening the infrastructure of these countries. Al-Qaeda can hardly say the same.

Yea, but killing Bin Laden doesn't bring those people back, doesn't bring the buildings back. I hate him, we had to get him, and I'm glad he's dead. I hope it brought closure to those who lost loved ones on 9/11. But the pure joy and partying in the streets reaction was a little strange to me. It was a positive moment in what is still a horrible situation, not a happy ending.

But within hours of Obama's announcement, we seemingly had every detail of the mission...even down to a "double tap to the head". It was LOL worthy, sounded so canned and scripted it's not even funny.

So much for super secret SpecOps missions...
