    Re: Sports injuries

In football, I tore my LCL, MCL and PCL. Fortunately, those never held me out of a game although I did miss part of a practice because I took a step and it just felt like somebody stabbed me in the knee and I couldn't put any pressure on it. It was fine the next day. I also have a bulging disc in my L3, pinched nerves in the middle of my back and near my shoulder blades. I forget things a lot more now too which I assume has to do with the amount of concussions I had due to being a lineman. I'll feel like I went from point A to point B and sometimes I'm not too sure how I got there. Countless broken fingers which are expected being a lineman.

In track, which I'd assume probably had to do with football as well, I had an inflamed elbow. I'm drawing a blank on the actual term other than what some people would call "throwing elbow".

Whenever I redshirt my freshman year of college, I partially tore my rotator cuff during flag football.

I don't consider it an injury but during my senior year of high school, I started having some issues during the first day of training camp because I never went to the summer workouts so conditioning wise, I was a little behind. My body just felt like it was kin of shutting down during pursuit drills at the end of practice so I just took a knee for a while. I ended up having to go to my doctor the next day and he ran an EKG and said that I had a minor heart attack.

The U,M, and R nerve aren't isolated to one area.

The fact he's having trouble maintaining a grip while swinging is a red flag that it's related to his nerve, and the fact that he c/o of the symptoms being on the digits which the Ulnar nerve is responsible for.

Pain in the elbow, and near the forearm could have been an impingement near your cubital tunnel, a canal that the three nerves run through. But the fact you c/o pain when releasing a bar which takes extension of your digits and wrist extensors, could mean lateral epicondilytis; this happening when your extensor carpi radialis brevis (ecrb) tendon is sliding across the lateral epicondyle creating micro tears. Due to them being micro, your body doesn't recognize this as an injury and doesn't attempt to heal. The fact that 9/10 people with the injury aren't in a position to discontinue work or ADL (activities of daily living) the injury usually is prolonged. Could be medial instead too, easiest way to find out is to create a fist, then flex/extend the elbow and find out which movement creates pain.

So I don't know if you were Dx, but counting out a nerve injury when someone who is c/o losing grip is naive.

Hypothetically speaking, Blzer, If i were you i would look up nerve glides.

Again, this is not a diagnosis, or medical advice, this is just contributing to a general discussion and shouldn't be used as a substitute to seeking medical attention.

        Re: Sports injuries

I never ruled out a nerve injury overall. I'm basing it off of what I've been told by somebody who went to school for sports related injuries.

I've never had any serious sports injuries until breaking my left wrist (scaphoid, specifically) mountain biking last September. I was casted for three weeks, then in a wrist splint until early December. It's still not fully healed and I still can't do flat-handed push ups without pain. Maybe I never will be able to do. I don't know. At least I'm right-handed, so the whole experience wasn't bad and I never really felt any pain after I got in the cast/splint. It hurt like hell for the first two days, when I refused to go to the doctor because I thought it was just a sprain.

I had the option of going to the doctors to have them fix it (by rebreaking my bone and set it in place to look normal) but my young dumb self was like "I AIN'T PAYIN NO DOCTA MONEY TO BREAK MAH FINGA'S!"

I can't make the finger straight.. when I try, it immediately snaps into an "S" which makes everyone cringe..

Sprained the AC joint in my right shoulder my senior year of high school during a football game (same injury Sam Bradford got surgery for) and I played the next week. My shoulder still hurts at times to this day and it doesn't have the same range of motion as my left shoulder. When I lift weights, my right shoulder is the first thing to feel pain.

                Baseball: Torn rotator cuff

Football: soph year torn right meniscus, senior year torn left meniscus......tore them both again doing SAR jumps in the service and ended up having to get two tibial osteotomies (look it up).

Dont have any issues from the rotator cuff, but when it gets cold both my knees pop when I walk and it takes me about 30 seconds to get walking.

Blew up my ankle twice last year. First sprain occurred on July 1st. Didn't feel too bad initially but the swelling was sneaky. Rehabbed to the fullest, tried not to push it, re-strengthened, waited until I felt healthy, then waited longer. Then what happens a week after I return to the hardwood? Sprained again, worse than the first time, like a tornado coming through an area still trying to rebuild after a hurricane. Still not pain-free and full strength.

Ha, I always used to wonder how many of my friends or classmates were faking or making things out to be worse than they were when I'd see them walking around on crutches after spraining an ankle. I'm certain you're not alone, but it's still kind of funny.

Long story short my big *** was in the air and came down hard *** hell and putting all 350 pounds on my left knee. By the time a got to the doctors my knee somehow got back together. I can feel it moving it was weird and an freaky accident. Was on crutches/pills for about 3 months.Had some scholarships from small D1 schools for football but after that **** I was too scared to play again.
Dunking at 6'4'' 300 sounds pretty legit. That's a lot of mass to take to the rim.

I've been around three dislocated knees in my life, none of my own so far. One occurred during a softball practice I was coaching. A 17 year old girl swung, missed, then collapsed; had to call the ambulance and everything. Another was a 16 year girl... at a school dance. Just regular dancing and bam, out pops the kneecap.

The last one came during one of my high school games. We had our tough opponent on the ropes, putting the finishing touches on what would be our 12th consecutive win, coming from behind in the fourth. A teammate hit me with a bounce pass, I made a weird gather and finished, then celebrated by pointing up in the stands to my older brother in triumph. Unfortunately, my opponent had fallen behind me and popped his knee out. On tape, his teammate can be seen approaching his fallen buddy before recoiling in disgust at what he discovers. I'll see if I can dig it up.

First, the minor heart attack thing is insane. Anything come of it?

Second, what kind of elbow pain did you deal with? Where would it hurt, if you don't mind me asking.

Out of curiosity, how exactly did you break your wrist mountain biking? I like biking, so maybe I can learn from your mistake, ha.

Also, did the same thing with my wrist. Broke it, figured it was just sprained, took multiple days to get it checked out. I feel like a lot of people do the same thing.

I was going down a hill and must have leaned forward a little or something, then I hit a root and flipped over my handlebars. I was falling basically face-first so I put my hands out to stop my fall, I guess, and that was that. I was very unlucky as there happened to be a rock where I fell, so the impact was much worse than it would have been with just dirt. It was weird because after it happened I was relieved as my arms still functioned fine as did my legs. I was really afraid I might have broken my arm as I slammed my forearm onto a rock really hard (I did get some cuts on my arms and legs). After laying there in shock for about 30 seconds, I got up and was really happy since I thought I had no serious injuries. My wrist hurt a little, but I figured it was nothing. I continued my ride for another hour, though the wrist pain started to get worse. Once I got back to the house, we went out for dinner and the pain by then was so bad that I couldn't even cut my food with a knife.

Nothing ever came from it. I missed our two scrimmages and the first two games of the year as precaution but I started week 3. I had extremely high blood pressure as it was (average sat around 175/140 in high school so it was consistently over 200 while practicing and playing).

The elbow pain, I don't know how to explain it. A stabbing pain I guess. Thinking, it was actually Tendonitis. If you put your arm straight out, palm down, it's the part that is on top. I don't know how to define that part of the elbow.

Dang, yeah, kind of figured it had to be over-the-handlebars related. That happened to me last summer when my tire sunk in a sandy portion of a trail. Thankfully emerged mostly scathe-free.

Word. I've been experiencing pain for the past year between the bottom of my elbow and my triceps. I am figuring that is tendinitis as well.

That's the problem with me. I tore mine and continued playing football. The only time I missed time during football for a knee injury was whenever we were being dickheads in the parking lot and I got hit by a car (it starts to sound like I'm making this stuff up).

My senior year, I was wearing two knee braces. They always bothered me more than my knees because of the metal in them so I ended up taking them off before half-time.

I developed a stress fracture my freshman year of college during indoor track season. Ended up getting red-shirted and had to wear a walking boot for a month. Had to have ultrasound done every day by the trainers and then rehabbed on a stationary bike and in a pool during that time. That's the worst injury I ever got in competitive sports. In high school the worst was a sprained ankle.

After college I did get a hernia from lifting weights. That sucked bad since it was one closer to your "delicate" region.

All in all I've been pretty lucky since I played 4 sports in high school, and one in college.

                                Re: Sports injuries

I had too many sports injuries. I didn't like going to the trainer or doctor though. Most I would go a few weeks or even later than that after the initial injury. Even have gone in after it started healing.

2 concussions, one from basketball, one from baseball.

                                Broke my nose twice.

Sprained my left ankle twice, my right ankle once.

Broken bone in the left side of my foot. Thought it was just a rolled or sprained ankle. Went in after 4 weeks of a black and blue foot, and found out a little bone off of my small toe broke.

My left patellar tendon started to wear down in high school, and in college with reffing a lot, I developed a slight tear in it.

Partially torn UCL in my right elbow (maybe worse now). Slightly tore it my junior year in high school, continued to wear down. Never had surgery on it, and now that I don't play ball anymore it's a non-issuse. But if I do throw a ball around, after 10-15 throws it bothers me.
